Press Quotes, Bio, Band & CD Reviews: The Bridget Kelly Band's "Bone Rattler" CD was released in May of 2017 on Alpha Sun records. An eclectic 2-disk CD, comprised of 22 all-original songs that cover a fairly wide spectrum of "Electric Blues" and "Blues-Rock" styles, the CD has been well-received by critics and fans alike. The CD was produced by featured guitarist Tim Fik. A summer tour to promote the new album included shows in Florida and Georgia, a CD release party at Darwin's in Atlanta, as well as club and festival dates throughout the Midwest (including a standing- ovation performance at the Northwood Blues Festival in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and a killer show at the Nickel Plate District Blues Festival in Fishers, Indiana). The band's CD "Bone Rattler" was the #2 most-downloaded AirPlayDirect "Blues Album" in the month of May 2017, and charted #11 on the International Blues Broadcasters Association Radio Playlist. The "Bone Rattler" CD was #1 on the RMR "Electric Blues" Album chart for a total of 24 weeks (spanning the period June 10th through December 30th). In addition, the CD climbed to #15 on the RMR Top-50 "Blues Album" chart (the week of Aug. 26th, 2017), with the group earning several top-10 positions on the Singles chart with tracks such as "Ain't Missin' You","Goin' to Chitown", and the song "What You Need" (which first aired Memorial Day Weekend on Sirius XM radio, B.B. King's Bluesville). In June of 2017, the Bridget Kelly Band reached a milestone as the "Bone Rattler" CD charted on the highly coveted and prestigious "Living Blues Radio Chart". Bone Rattler hit #1 on Blues411.com radio in November of 2017, and was #2 on the "Best of 2017" Electric Blues Album Chart. Inspired by classic & electric blues, the Bridget Kelly Band has placed their unique stamp on the blues genre, with high-energy live performances and a hybrid sound that mixes Texas and Memphis Blues with various Southern Blues traditions. The powerful and sultry vocals of singer Bridget Kelly and the incendiary lead guitar work of Tim Fik forge a signature hybrid sound that combines female urban blues with riff-driven rockin' blues guitar, held together by a dynamic rhythm section comprised of Tim Mulberry on drums and Mark Armbrecht. Update: The Bridget Kelly Band is excited to announce the addition of their newest member... drummer Tim Mulberry of Lake City, Florida. Tim brings a world of concert experience to the stage as former touring drummer for the Black Eyed Peas. Tim Fik, Bridget Kelly Fik, and Tim Mulberry have combined forces to establish a music production facility to support the Independent Record Label: Alpha Sun Records LLC, with a full multi-track recording studio... located in Lake City, Florida. The group is busy working on their new Album which is scheduled for release in February of 2019. JLS are the UK’s favourite boyband, their meteoric career kicking off after being runners up on the 2008 X-Factor talent show. Since then they have sold 1.3 million albums worldwide – including their new and second studio release “Outta This World” – and have enjoyed massive chart success inclosing several Number 1s as well as winning 2010 Brit Awards for “Best Breakthrough Artist” and “Best British Single” for ‘Beat Again’. The show for this, their second major tour, has been created by artistic director Beth Honan with a set and stage design by Peter Barnes, with all the technical production co-ordinated by Production North, overseen on the road by production manager Karen Ringland. 1st Robe LEDWash 600s on JLS | 2 When Dave Lee was choosing his fixtures, he specifically needed some very bright and lightweight units to do certain jobs. When HSL’s project manager Mike Oates demonstrated the LEDWash 600 to him – he knew this was the ideal fixture. The first challenge he needed to overcome with the LEDWashes was to illuminate a large catwalk approximately 120 ft long that flies in from the roof and hangs above the audience for a whole section of the show, allowing the band to get close up and personal to their hoards of adoring fans.

  • In the Studio: the Role of Recording Techniques in Rock Music (2006)
21 In the Studio: The Role of Recording Techniques in Rock Music (2006) John Covach I want this record to be perfect. Meticulously perfect. Steely Dan-perfect. -Dave Grohl, commencing work on the Foo Fighters 2002 record One by One When we speak of popular music, we should speak not of songs but rather; of recordings, which are created in the studio by musicians, engineers and producers who aim not only to capture good performances, but more, to create aesthetic objects. (Zak 200 I, xvi-xvii) In this "interlude" Jon Covach, Professor of Music at the Eastman School of Music, provides a clear introduction to the basic elements of recorded sound: ambience, which includes reverb and echo; equalization; and stereo placement He also describes a particularly useful means of visualizing and analyzing recordings. The student might begin by becoming sensitive to the three dimensions of height (frequency range), width (stereo placement) and depth (ambience), and from there go on to con sider other special effects. One way to analyze the music, then, is to work backward from the final product, to listen carefully and imagine how it was created by the engineer and producer. To illustrate this process, Covach provides analyses .of two songs created by famous producers in different eras: Steely Dan's "Josie" and Phil Spector's "Da Doo Ron Ron:' Records, tapes, and CDs are central to the history of rock music, and since the mid 1990s, digital downloading and file sharing have also become significant factors in how music gets from the artists to listeners. Live performance is also important, and some groups-such as the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers Band, and more recently Phish and Widespread Panic-have been more oriented toward performances that change from night to night than with authoritative versions of tunes that are produced in a recording studio.

  • Hoodoo Man Blues--Junior Wells (1965) Added to the National Registry: 2012 Essay By: Bill Hart (Guest Post)*
Hoodoo Man Blues--Junior Wells (1965) Added to the National Registry: 2012 Essay by: Bill Hart (guest post)* Junior Wells Original label Album cover When I think of the Chicago blues, particularly the era of the “electric blues,” I usually think of the legendary performers on the Chess label, most of whom are dead and gone, the label now operating as part of the Universal Music Group. A few small labels, like Alligator Records, which started in 1971, Earwig Music (founded in Chicago in 1978 by Michael Franks) and Red Lightnin,’ established in the UK in 1968, have catalogs of older blues recordings or distribute “contemporary blues.” But Delmark Records, founded in St. Louis in 1953, and based in Chicago since 1958, is not only one of the “original” Chicago blues labels, but still remains in operation today. Delmark is also still run by its founder, Bob Koester, who is a legendary figure in his own right (and graciously agreed to supply me with information concerning the record). Koester produced and Delmark released “Hoodoo Man Blues” in 1965. The record has never gone out of print (except for a few months when Delmark moved its offices). And look up any list of “essential” blues records and it is there. There’s good reason for that. Though he had not yet been discovered by a national audience when the album was recorded in September of 1965, 30-year old Junior Wells was a well-established harmonica player and vocalist on the Chicago blues scene. He made his first recording as a replacement in Muddy Waters’s band for the legendary Little Walter in 1952.
