Folks who have difficulty or refuse to forgive may have false notions of what forgiveness is about. Forgiveness is not forgetting. It is not denial. Forgiveness takes more than willpower and cannot be given on command. Forgiveness does not mean giving up our rights or excusing the offender. Finally, forgiveness does not demonstrate moral superiority, and it certainly doesn’t mean just leaving it up to God (as in “Only God can forgive”).

We were amazed at your response to this project! I am so thankful to the parishioners who are always there ready and waiting to support Christian Service helping those in need. We cannot do any of these projects without you! During Lent many of us set a goal to spend quiet time with God. Sometimes we can get so busy with life that our only quiet time is the middle of the night. How many of us have been woken up with messages from God at 3:00am. Anne Marie Stines, one of your Christian Service Commission members, felt this prompting to reach out to others during Lent. As time went on she was busy with life and thought it was just a passing thought. But she kept feel- ing this nudge, including waking her up in the middle of the night. She could no longer ignore it and knew it was a prompting from God. During one of our Commission meetings, Anne Marie shared her story about feeling called to do this Lenten pro- ject. Within seconds, the Commission members jumped on board in support of this idea sharing ideas and their time to make this project happen. From the time I started this position, each Christian Service Commission member present and past have shown their talents and gifts to share with and for our community. They are so generous with their knowledge, ideas, time, and talents. I am so grateful for them. This past year has been especially challenging. Thank you Nancy Dubczak, Barbara Onofrio, Anne Marie Stines, Pat Baltosiewich, Kim Dunn, Patty Saenz, and Pat Gildersleeve.
