Dear Members and Friends of The Metropolitan Museum of Art,

Discover ’s exciting new art and architecture in the fascinating setting of centuries-old Madrid and . Visits to intimate private collections, curatorial tours of leading museums and the pleasures of excellent accommodations and haute cuisine will make this trip a truly privileged experience.

Accompanying us will be art historian Christopher Noey, Museum Educator at the Met, who has led previous trips to rave reviews. His lectures and insights will greatly enrich our program.

We begin in Madrid at The Ritz, constructed at the request of King Alfonso XIII in 1910 so that aristocrats, heads of state and international luminaries could be welcomed in magnificent style. Explore the famed Prado, whose new wing was designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect ; the Centro de Arte Moderno Reina Sofia, housed in a new building by Jean Nouvel; and the small house museum with works by 20th-century artist Joaquín Sorolla. Highlights include a reception at the home of a collector and hosted lunch at an exclusive club, with a tour of its sculpture park.

At the Beaux-Arts Atocha train station we will board an express train to Barcelona. Accommodations are at the landmark Casa Fuster Hotel, situated at the highest point of Paseo de Gracia, with panoramic views. It is for good reason that Pablo Picasso spent his formative years

in this city, absorbing and being nurtured by its many vanguard movements. View his early works at a museum in five Gothic manor houses, and tour several other exceptional museums.

We will also witness the ever-evolving architectural landscape, including the legacy of Antoni Gaudí, whose Modernist buildings so famously adorn this Catalan capital.

For those who wish to extend their time in Spain, an optional postlude is planned in . Visit the studio of a well-known sculptor and see the stunning City of Arts and Sciences, with an impressive array of contemporary architecture by Santiago Calatrava.

Due to the nature of private visits, space on this program is limited. We suggest you reserve soon to ensure your place.

Sincerely,

Mosaic (detail) by Antoni Gaudí, Barcelona.
