The show team worked very hard to make the hall look great for the day and there were some splendid trophies on offer for the Best in Show winners. There were also some new side classes on offer which were particularly well filled with one class having 16 entries. These classes were sponsored by various people so there were some beautiful rosettes and other prizes on offer. Felis Britannica editor @felisbritannica.co.uk Show Topics World Show, Poznan, Poland The week before the winners show, several intrepid Felis Britannica exhibitors travelled to Poznan in Poland for the FIFe World Show. The trip over was not without it’s Drama’s but we all enjoyed it immensely and had a great time being part of this amazing World Wide hobby of ours. Cecilia Macleod had a terrific time and here she writes a short article on what it was like for her and Alfie. “This year I took Supreme Premier Nandinakatts Simply Red , “Alfie” to World Show witches those who know and love him, to the FIFe World in Posnan, Poland. We travelled to Poland by car and In fact there were 5 car loads of Felis Britannica members and 5 Norwegian Forest Cats attending the show, which made it a lot of fun. At the show, we were set up in corals by country so all of the UK entries were right next to each other. This was nice as several of us had decided prior to the show to have a Halloween theme for our pens and it was nice that they were all right next to each other. There were 1510 cats entered, the biggest entry on record. Of these the 2nd largest entry was for Norwegian Forest Cats with 176 entries. Overall there were 634 Category 2 cats!! Other cats from the UK entered were GIC Mountain Spirit Blue Boo Balou Cat – owned by Ali Ross, GIC Normystic Lord Burr owned by Richard Handy, IC Sonny Blue Tanis owned by Darren Handy and “Fatty” or Sterrankattens Bear Hug co-owned by myself, Ali Ross and Caroline and Alfie John Tipper. Attending the show without cats were Jean and Ron Brown, Josie Hughes, Clara De Dios Bridget ... and Tracey Spooner. Judging took place in a side room off the exhibit halls and this area was a buzz of people and cats. There were some really magnificent cats and you could feel the tension in each exhibitor as they waited their cats turn. Alfie was judged by Mr. Robert Lubrano, from France. He looked Alfie over very well and told me he was a very well balanced cat and awarded him the HP or Prize of Honour. He then told me he would see us later for nominations. I had not realised it, but there were enough neuters to hold a BIV and Alfie was called back while I was involved in getting assistance from the Show Vet on an issue with Fatty’s passport (another story, another day). So, Jean Brown with assistance from Clara took Alfie up to be judged again I arrived just as Robert had decided that Alfie was the best of his neuter males in Group 6 and wanted to compare Alfie to the female. Jean handed Alfie to me and I took him back in to the ring. Robert looked both cats over and then looked at me and awarded him the BIV. What a fantastic moment it was! It was great to have him get the BIV and then to be considered for nomination. For nomination he was against European Premier CAMDEN DE LAÏLOKEN and a Siberian whose name unfortunately I did not catch. The judge started off by stating that his choice would be one of the Norwegians and he chose Camden who I must say was one of the most magnificent looking Norwegian Forest Cats at the show. It was no insult to lose to this cat! While the rest of our entries did not fair so well, we UK exhibitors and breeders have much to be proud of. To have one BIV out of the 634 cats entered in this Category is very exciting. I hope that we see more entries from the UK at future World Shows as we are members of an international federation of cat clubs and should and can compete on an international level.”
