CHAPTER ONE A Not-So Overnight Sensation Just two years earlier, Colin Kaepernick had only dreamed of playing in the National Football League (NFL). Now he was quarterbacking the San Francisco 49ers’ playoff game against the Green Bay Packers on January 12, 2012. Colin shredded the Packer defense, gaining 181 yards on the ground to set an NFL rushing record by a quarterback. The 49ers’ 45–31 victory earned them a spot in the biggest football game of the season: the Super Bowl. Within days the young athlete would experience another first: being featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. “I found out (Monday night) about it, and it was pretty sick,” he told the Oakland Tribune. He had seen many faces on the magazine’s covers while he was growing up in California. “I didn’t have them on my walls, but I used to look at them,” he added. Did he ever imagine that one day his picture would be there? He just might have. It wasn’t so long ago that hardly anyone knew Colin Kaepernick’s name, let alone how to pronounce it. But today football fans in San Francisco and elsewhere greatly admire the 49ers quarterback. To many people it seemed like Colin had become a star almost overnight. But his family knew how long he had been working towards this goal. His brother Kyle told the Orlando Sentinel how suddenly everyone was familiar with the Kaepernicks’ unusual name. Even better, “People know how to pronounce our last name now,” Kyle said, a bit astonished (It’s KAP-uhr-nik). One thing that didn’t surprise Kyle is his younger brother’s ability. Kyle always knew that Colin had great talent for the game. “He was the kid who’d throw and you would just hear the crowd go, Oooooooh!’” he said. Just as much as his talent, though, it was Colin’s drive that got him to the NFL, and then the Super Bowl. Chris Ault, Colin’s coach at the University of Nevada, told the Tribune Business News, “He is one of the most competitive players I have ever coached. He is a vicious competitor—and I mean that in a real pleasant way.” You’ve Just Finished your Free Sample Enjoyed the preview? Buy: http://www.ebooks2go.com.

  • 1 Drafting the Best Future NFL Quarterback Decision Making in A
Drafting the Best Future NFL Quarterback Decision Making in a Complex Environment Final Project Nick Besh Steve Ellis October 18, 2004 Anyone who has followed the NFL draft knows that drafting a Quarterback in the first round is a hit or miss proposition. Successful college prospects, many who are under classmen fail to go on and have the same success as professionals. There are the “cant- miss” prospects who do go one to become Pro Bowl QB’s, but just as many are total busts. It would appear as if the selection is nothing more than a crap-shoot. Drafting is all about priorities and alternatives. Given that, there must be a way to quantify all of the stats and “gut feelings” of players to select a future NFL star. The description of the NFL draft problem would appear to be a perfect candidate for a complex ratings model using the SuperDecisions software. Analyzing the problem further lead us to our stated goal: Optimize a high selection in the NFL draft by drafting a solid contributor to your team, if not a Pro-Bowl caliber player while at the same time avoiding the selection of a player who can set your franchise back years. This is a critical decision that does not leave much room for error. To achieve our goal, thorough research of all the criteria that would need to be considered when drafting a QB would need to be analyzed. This process led us to nine top level criteria: 1 1. Strength of college experience: Just how valuable was the players experience at this level to his future success? • Sub Criteria: College (big/small), college winning percentage, college years started.

  • Does Donovan Mcnabb Belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame
Does Donovan McNabb Belong In The Pro Football Hall Of Fame Author : Steven Resnick Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb believes he belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He stated his case and believes he's got better career numbers than Troy Aikman. Aikman played from 1989 to 2000. He went 94-71 in his career, threw for 32,942 yards, completed 61.5 percent of his passes and threw 165 touchdowns to 141 interceptions. It's not difficult to see where McNabb is coming from in regards to regular season performance. The Dallas Cowboys though did win three Super Bowls with Aikman at quarterback. Still he only had one stellar performance in the postseason and that was in 1992 when threw for 795 yards with eight touchdowns and zero interceptions while completing 68.5 percent of his passes. He won the Super Bowl MVP as well. The remainder of his performances were mediocre. Which is bit of a shock with having wide receiver Michael Irvin around. Dallas primarily relied on their defense and running the football with future Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith. Overall in the playoffs Aikman was 11-4, threw for 3,849 yards, 23 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while completing 63.7 percent of his passes. 1 / 2 McNabb played from 1999-2011. He went 98-62 as starter, threw for 37,276 yards, 234 touchdowns to 117 interceptions and completed 59 percent of his passes. There was only one Super Bowl appearance made and it was a three point loss to the New England Patriots.
