2 3 Read about it December 2015 The Warehouse Netball Game

A real highlight of the year for both the Duffy Books in Homes team and The North Island Warehouse Distribution centre team is the ‘Charity Netball Game’ – and this year’s event did not disappoint! The hours of organisation and planning that went into the evening were finished off by plenty of laughs, great costumes, competitive spirit and good memories from the 8 teams and their celebrity players.

We were lucky enough to have the support of Warriors stars Konrad Hurrell and Albert Vete, Silver Ferns Catherine Latu, Paula Griffin, Linda Vagana, Bernice Mene, Mai FM presenter K-Lee McNabb, Counties Manukau Rugby Player Onosa’i Auva’a and Samoan International netballer Toa Tanimo. The North Island Warehouse Distribution team raised funds through a combination of in-house initiatives to give them a chance to bid for a celebrity to join their team. The branch that raised the most, got first pick of celebrities – with all proceeds going to Duffy Books in Homes. The courts were lucky enough to have a The North Island Warehouse Distribution teams guest appearance from Duffy himself, as Linda Vagana and Toa Tanimo lead their Warehouse team – ‘Nuggets and Dumplings’ to the grand final against Bernice Mene’s team – ‘Why so serious’. Bernice and her team won a close game and were crowned the champions on the night. The amazing funds that were raised will go towards helping 500 children on the Duffy Books programme receive new books in 2016. A massive thank you to The North Island Warehouse Distribution team – we love your enthusiasm and work! Catherine Latu and her team - ‘The Skittles’ Konrad Hurrell and Duffy take a selfie

I am definitely a visual learner 9 and understand something a lot better if I can see it, which is 10 Geronimo Stilton – Get Into Gear, Stilton! why I took a bunch of my cycling equipment with me to show the kids some things they may have never seen before. I visited 27 schools in three weeks, with each and every school giving me a warm welcome with their hospitality and excitement of the Duffy Assembly. The kids listened intently, answered my questions perfectly and had some very thoughtful questions for me. The laughs and smiles were an absolute highlight for me as I dressed the kids up with my medal, helmet and skinsuit before sitting one lucky student on my race bike. Equally just as much of a highlight was seeing the pure joy and excitement on the children’s faces as they received their Duffy Books. The organisation from the Duffy Books in Homes office made the three weeks an absolute breeze, as did seeing the fantastic job that the teachers throughout the country were doing with their students. The letters and feedback from classes I’ve had since the assemblies have topped off my experience of being a Duffy Role Model, something I’ll definitely do again if I’m given the chance! The students at Pembroke School (Oamaru) enjoyed exploring Diana Queenin’s fossil collection from around the globe.
