AUTOWORLD NEWSLETTER #5 DEC 2018

AUTOWORLD CELEBRATES FOR 70 WONDERFUL YEARS

Christmas and the New Year are not far off. We’ve put a splendid gift for you under our big Christmas tree at Autoworld: more than 65 brought together for an exhibition that runs until 27 January and tells the legendary story of the brand. In fact, if you include the cars present in the museum’s permanent collection, we have over 70 Porsches on show to delight young and old for more than a month.

Autoworld is therefore the place where Porsche’s 70th anniversary year reaches its grand finale. This is a matter of no small pride to us: it’s a tremendous feat for a museum to be able to gather so many iconic cars together for a limited time. It bears witness to the trust placed in us by car makers, importers, clubs, other European museums and, especially, private collectors. We would like to extend our thanks to Porsche Import, Porsche Classic Club and Porsche Museum Stuttgart, to name but a few.

Some real Porsche treasures lie hidden away in our country, and many collectors have kindly brought their ‘gems’ out of their garages and entrusted them to us for the duration of the exhibition. We are very grateful to them as well. The quality of our exhibition was further underlined by the kind acceptance by Mr Jacky Ickx and Dr of our invitation to attend the inaugural evening.

Be sure to come and see the amazing cars on display at Autoworld this winter! ps: don't forget to click on the play-button to watch our official teaser

‘I looked around and couldn’t find the car I was dreaming of anywhere. So I built it!’

THE BARN EVOLUTION

At the heart of the exhibition, a reconstructed The cars lined up here trace the brand’s barn is the setting for the brand’s first development, starting with one of the first models: the legendary 356s. One item is on loan from the Porsche Museum, specially for our exhibition: the 928 prototype presented to Ferry Porsche for his 75th birthday. In this part of the exhibition, visitors can see at a glance the many variants created throughout the years.

MOTORSPORT

At Porsche, the Motorsport Department is an integral part of the brand's DNA. With 19 victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche is currently the world's leading manufacturer of racing cars. An entire area is dedicated to these impressive cars, such as the 550 Spyder (the first Porsche racing car, and the model owned by James Dean), the Carrera Abarth (resulting from a little- known collaboration between Porsche and Abarth), the 904 GTS, the 911 3.0 RSR, two versions of the 917 – the Psychedelic and the Spyder CanAm –, the 935 Kremer K3, the 959 Paris- Dakar Rothmans, and, best of all, the 919 Hybrid LMP1, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times ... plus many more.

SPECIAL STAGES

The rich history of the brand led to our decision to create special stages to show off some exceptional cars and remarkable developments under special lighting. The very rare 356/2-Gmünd Cabriolet Keibl sits on a rotating stage. This exceptional car, just two of which were built by Viennese coachbuilder Ferdinand Keibl, is being lent to us by the Stuttgart Porsche Museum.

Further on are the Supercars, those exceptional race cars authorised for road use: Porsche's first supercar, the 959, and the 911 GT1 Strassenversion are lined up alongside the Carrera GT and the very latest example, the 918 Spyder. We don’t want to give away all the secrets of the exhibition here, but we can tell you that the 911 Turbos definitely haven’t been forgotten, in all versions, and the same goes for the 911 RSs (RennSport), the Speedstersand the special bodywork versions.

Finally, the exhibition also includes short films and historical posters, as well as a diorama and a number of display cases containing no fewer than 250 scale models.

PORSCHE TODAY PORSCHE LEGO

The current range is also well represented, Specially for our younger visitors – and for showcasing a wide range of cars from the the young at heart – the exhibition also 718 (Boxter and Cayman versions) to the features the Big Brick Lego very latest Panamera Sport Turismo. LIFE ART

When a 911 turns into an artistic medium

During the opening evening, our thousand guests witnessed an unusual artistic event. Two artists from the Brussels artistic collective Louves – Cathy Gagalis Vega, a graphic designer, and Clarisse Jeghers, an art therapist and illustrator – created an artwork live on a 1972 Porsche 911 T entirely covered in vinyl. This project, devised by Damien van Lierde, was an initiative of 911 Motorsport, supported by the Autoworld Museum. The live art car will remain on display in the museum for the duration of the exhibition.

Come and see this unique and short-lived work for yourself.
