GREAT BRITISH BONUS FOAL REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED The deadline for registering 2020 filly foals for the Great British Bonus scheme has been extended to 31st October 2020 as a result of the complications caused this year by COVID-19. The final deadline for registering yearlings fillies for the scheme remains Monday, 31st August, ensuring that all eligible fillies will be registered before the yearling sales get underway. LANIGAN JOINS FOUR STAR SALES Former British-based trainer David Lanigan has joined one of the US’s leading consigners, Four Star Sales, where he will work as Bloodstock Advisor, focussing on the private purchase of horses in training and racing management. Lanigan enjoyed success as a trainer with such as the Gr.1 Derby runner-up Main Sequence and the Gr.2 winner Meeznah, both sourced by Lanigan from the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, as well as Interception and Worth Waiting. He moved to Kentucky with his family earlier this year and his new role at Four Star Sales sees his career come full circle, as he worked with the operation’s Managing Partner Kerry Cauthen at Walmac International in Kentucky, 20 years ago, prior to his move to Newmarket as assistant trainer to Sir Henry Cecil. “We are very excited to have David join our team at Four Star,” Cauthen commented. “David has a great understanding of all the different aspects of the business. He learned the sales and breeding side from his parents at Tullamaine Castle Stud in Ireland and during his 13-year training career, when he regularly sold race horses both privately and at training sales. David has also returned to America for the [Keeneland] September Sale every year since he began training. He recommended the purchase of several top Stakes winners from that sale. He knows well what it takes to select and train top quality horses on both sides of the Atlantic.” Lanigan added: “As I begin with Four Star, I will be focusing on the bloodstock side and I have been sourcing private sales of racehorses from England that we believe can move up in class in the US. Also, given the concerns over travel during the pandemic, I have had inquiries from European and other overseas owners to advise on purchases at the upcoming yearling and breeding stock sales. I expect that I may have a few more of those as the sales draw closer. “While I was training in England I attended the September Sale every year to buy yearlings for several overseas clients and to inspect the stock of my clients with breeding operations in Kentucky, such as Ken and Sarah Ramsey, Runnymede Farm and the Niarchos family. “Amy and I always knew we would return to Lexington one day and started considering it seriously last summer. Though I genuinely loved my time with Henry [Cecil], and training on my own in Newmarket and Lambourn, I am extremely excited to return to the States. I couldn’t hope to work for a better company or have a better

The form of his first win, gained after 300 days since his debut at two, was ordinary and this represented a big step-up for a colt who might yet challenge for black type this year or next, in the typical manner of a Stoute improver-with-age. Ten three-year-olds and one eight-year-old lined up for a division of a pretty moderate novice over an extended 1m1f at Wolverhampton on Wednesday evening, but the sole previous winner Ilaraab (Wootton Bassett) was long odds-on to follow up a win at Thirsk on his second start.
