ט״ו טבת תשע״ז | שבת ויחי BJSZ Bulletin | January 14, 2017 | 16 Teves 5777 Bnai Jacob Shaarei Zion Good Shabbos! Parshas Vayechi PARSHA QUESTION OF THE WEEK : Mishna Yomi: TWO DESCRIPTIONS OF ONE REDEMPTION Challah 4:11 - Orlah 1:1 In Yaakov’s words to Yosef, he tells him of the eventual redemption from Daf Yomi: Egypt (48:21): “I will soon die, and G-d will be with you and return you to the land Bava Metzia 110 of your fathers.” Yosef, in turn, expresses himself similarly to his brothers (50:24): “I will die, and G-d will surely recall you and bring you up from this land to the land SHABBOS SCHEDULE that He had promised to Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov.” While these statements are essentially similar, there are certain noteworthy differences between them. Candle Lighting 4:48 pm Yaakov speaks of G-d being with them, while Yosef speaks of His recalling them; Mincha Erev Shabbos 4:50 pm Yaakov speaks of the return to Israel, while Yosef speaks of bringing them up to Is- rael; and finally Yaakov refers to it as the land of their fathers, while Yosef refers to Daf Yomi 8:00 am it as the land promised to Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov, not even referring to them Rabbi’s Parsha Shiur 8:35 am as their fathers. What is the meaning of these differences? Shacharis 8:45 am Z’man Kri’as Shema 9:51 am HALACHA OF THE WEEK: A FEATURE OF THE BJSZ DAILY HALACHA Shabbos Afternoon Shiur given KADDISH , M AFTIR & M ORE by Rabbi Hauer 4:10 pm The Kaddish after reading from the Torah should not interrupt between the Maftir’s reading from the Torah and his reading of the Haftara. As such we ideally Mincha 4:40 pm say Kaddish after the seven basic Aliyos on a Shabbos, and likewise on Yom Tov. Maariv ~5:50 pm The only exception to this is Tisha B’Av morning where the third Aliyah is the Maftir, Weekday Mincha and we say Kaddish between the Laining and the Haftara. If at any time Kaddish 1:55 pm, 4:45 pm was mistakenly not recited until after the Maftir, we would proceed with the Haftara and say the Kaddish afterwards. If the only people capable of being called Candle Lighting Next Week up for Maftir had already received a regular Aliyah, we would nevertheless call them 4:55 pm up again for Maftir. If however the person who received Shevi’i is capable of being Mincha Next Erev Shabbos the Maftir, no second Aliyah should be made for him, and instead he should pro- 5:00 pm ceed immediately to the Haftara and then say Kaddish afterwards (OC 282:5).
