9 Isle of Mona News by Cat Jenkins

Out & About in Douglas

Once every fortnight, a small bunch of Isle of Mona Oddfellows gather at the Welcome Centre, to take the sea air on the Promenade or Quay, or in the Sunken Gardens (it all depends on what the state of the promenade works is at the time, and of course the Manx weather!).

We usually round the amble off with a cuppa and a cheeky cake too.... the sessions are advertised on our Facebook Just some of our ‘intrepid’ amblers! page, and everyone’s welcome!

We’re off to the Show

We’re going to be promoting the benefits of The Oddfellows at the Southern Agricultural Show on Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August at Orrisdale Farm, Ballasalla.

If any friends or family are coming along and would like to find out more about us, we’d love to see them. Do pop by for a chat.

Fingers crossed for sunshine

Here are some photos of some very happy Oddfellows at meetings in Ormskirk, Southport Town Centre and Hesketh Park. Oddfellows has been absolutely AMAZING during lockdown - for me living alone it has been a lifeline

I only joined in August 2019 not long before lockdown and hadn’t met any other members. It was diffi cult to get to meetings, most of which were 40 miles away. However once we were on Zoom everything changed. I have met so many lovely people. I thoroughly enjoy the quizzes and games, and the excellent talks we have.

One thing that really touched me was at Christmas which I was dreading as Th e Secretary actually put on an event I have no close family, but one Branch for us. I was so moved by her kindness, asked us if any of us were on our own I was in tears. It was the highlight on Christmas Day, as it was Friday of my Christmas Day! (their usual Zoom meeting day) and a few of us put our hands up. Janet G, North Yorkshire

Each year, we recognise and celebrate the efforts of members who have gone above and beyond for their local Branch, fellow members, and the Society as a whole.
