Mike Haviland enters his first season at the helm of the Tigers. He came to Colorado College after serving one year as head coach of the Hershey Bears (AHL). Haviland was an assistant coach for the Chicago Blackhawks from 2008-12, helping the team win the Stanley Cup in 2010. Haviland brought in a completely new coaching staff with him to CC, but with a couple of familiar faces to the Tiger hockey program. Gene Reilly and 1995 CC grad R.J. Enga will serve as assistant coaches, while Chris Kawano, a 2007 graduate of CC, will be the team’s director of operations and video coordinator. CC’s top three returning scorers are sophomores, including 2013-14 NCHC Rookie of the Year Jaccob Slavin, who led the squad with 25 points (5g, 20a). Sam Rothstein finished third with 20 points (6g,14a) whileAlex Roos was fourth with 17 (10g, 7a). Junior Cody Bradley, who posted 16 points (6g,10a), is the only other returner that had at least 10 points last season. • Maximizing Attendance at World Arena
MAXIMIZING ATTENDANCE AT WORLD ARENA A THESIS Presented to The Faculty of the Department of Economics and Business The Colorado College In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Arts By Alexander Krushelnyski May 2013 MAXIMIZING ATTENDANCE AT WORLD ARENA Alexander Krushelnyski May 2013 Economics Abstract The Division 1 Men’s Ice Hockey Team for Colorado College sells out at their home arena, The World Arena, at 7,343. As one of two division 1 sports at Colorado College, this venue provides great entertainment for fans of the Colorado College Tigers. There have not been any studies to examine why and how the World Arena maintains such a successful rate of attendance. An Ordinary Least Squares Regression is used to determine which factors are significant in affecting attendance at Tiger Hockey Games. Ticket sales are used as a proxy for measuring attendance. Using two different models, results show that playing The Air Force Academy, being regular season champions, making it to the NCAA tournament and making it to the Frozen Four tournament are most significant in increasing attendance. Other variables that were also significant are penalty minutes. It Is Time For Congress To Take Action And Reform Our Nation’s Immigration Laws: A Plea From America’s Scholars May 1, 2013 The history of America is a history of immigration. Starting with our country’s founding by idealistic newcomers, the waves of immigrants who settled in the United States have continuously added to our culture and national identity. However, America’s immigration system has become out of step with the social and economic needs of our nation and, therefore, we believe policies must change. As university professors from across the United States, we believe that reforming our immigration laws is both the right thing to do and is in our nation’s best interests. As the community responsible for educating the next generation of Americans, we see the harm that a broken immigration system has had on our students and their families. For immigrant students who have studied and grown up in the U.S., we need to ensure that they have the opportunities to continue their education and settle into their careers in the U.S. Similarly, immigrants with credentials and skills already living in the U.S. should have the opportunity to practice their professions here. The positive effects that immigrant students have on our education system are manifold. Immigrant students contribute to the diversity of our classrooms, which in turn has a positive impact on all students. Diversity has been shown to be positively associated with students’ cognitive development, satisfaction with their educational experience, and leadership skills. We are educating these students in the U.S., but the broken immigration system makes it extremely difficult for students to stay and build a life in this country and for U.S.

  • Raise the Minimum Wage He Minimum Wage Has Been an Important Part of Our Tnation’S Economy for 68 Years
Hundreds of Economists Say: Raise the Minimum Wage he minimum wage has been an important part of our Tnation’s economy for 68 years. It is based on the principle Hard work of valuing work by establishing an hourly wage floor beneath which employers cannot pay their workers. In so doing, the minimum wage helps to equalize the imbalance in bargaining deserves power that low-wage workers face in the labor market. The minimum wage is also an important tool in fighting poverty. fair pay The value of the 1997 increase in the federal minimum wage has been fully eroded. The real value of today’s federal minimum wage is less than it has been since 1951. Moreover, the ratio of the minimum wage to the average hourly wage of non-supervisory workers is 31%, its lowest level since World War II. This decline is causing hardship for low-wage workers and their families. We believe that a modest increase in the minimum wage would improve the well-being of low-wage workers and would not have the adverse effects that critics have claimed. In particular, we share the view the Council of Economic Advisors expressed in the 1999 Economic Report of the President that "the weight of the evidence suggests that modest increases in the minimum wage have had very little or no effect on employment." While controversy about the precise employment effects of the minimum wage continues, research has shown that most of the beneficiaries are adults, most are female, and the vast majority are members of low-income working families.
