Na Fianna Nuacht

Step aside The Voice of Ireland, here comes the feet of Na Fianna! Big news broke on the Na Fianna Does Strictly Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/NaFiannadoesStrictly/) on Monday as it was announced that the show has moved to The Helix. The demand for tickets has been unprecedented and the organisers had no choice but to seek out a larger venue.

And what a venue they picked….the Helix in DCU. Home already in the last twelve months to Hilary Clinton, Phil Collins and the Voice of Ireland, the news was broken gently to a group of very shocked dancers at Monday night’s practice. They were a little, just a little, surprised to be informed that they were moving to not only a bigger stage but also a bigger capacity of over 1000 audience members!

The public announcement of the move was made by a special video featuring our very own Triple All Ireland Medalist and 2016 All Star Nominee . The video released on the Strictly Facebook page and had over 3,500 views in the first 24 hours! Additional online tickets went on sale last Monday for the new venue and by Tuesday evening they were all sold out again!

The night is capturing the imagination of the club and the wider community. Our able sleuths, Jules Cooper and Ciara McGowan have been keeping us up to date on progress with video reports and live Facebook interviews, if you haven't seen them best catch up with them on the Na Fianna Does Strictly Facebook page, see link here https://www.facebook.com/NaFiannadoesStrictly/

After the show in The Helix, the organisers advise that a fleet of coaches will be awaiting to ferry guests back to the club for a homecoming party for the champions and all the dancers. It's shaping up for an EPIC night! We're led to believe that there are a few more surprises in store - judging by what’s happened to date it'll be worth watching this space! Na Fianna Does Strictly, the show that just keeps on giving!

U-15B Boys Take Shield

The U-15B Boys had their Shield Football Final last Sunday against Cuala. Na Fianna had home advantage and the match was played on the main pitch Mobhí Road. It was a very entertaining game to watch from the sideline even though it took Na Fianna a while to get on the scoreboard. Once they kicked a few scores, they gained momentum and gave a great team display in the first half. They were well up at half time and looked unstoppable.

Cuala had other plans however and made a good start to the second half clocking up some unanswered scores. Both teams battled hard throughout the second half and Cuala started to gain on the Na Fianna lead. Some outstanding hard work, tracking & superb tackling was to Na Fianna’s advantage and they never gave up. Also, intelligent play by the team ensured further scores to keep Cuala at bay. At one end of the pitch, Ciarán Brennan made some fantastic saves throughout while at the other end Neil Currie scored 3 goals. There was jubilation and relief on the Na Fianna sideline at the final whistle as Na Fianna’s brilliant defenders were put to the test several times in the dying minutes. There were some outstanding individual performances as well as a great overall team performance on the day. Seán O’Sullivan, team Captain for the day accepted the Shield on the team’s behalf & said a few short words in Irish.

Fantastic end to a relatively successful season for this group of players. The team finished 3rd in the league, a point behind the 2nd place team.

Reminder To Mentors

A quick reminder to team mentors that it is forbidden to use the edge, or any part no matter how small, of the main Mobhi Road pitch as a warm-up area while waiting for their weekly slot on the Club’s All Weather pitches. Similarly, Scoil Chaitríona, with whom CLG Na Fianna enjoys a special relationship, have asked that the section of grass next to their basketball court is NOT to be used for warm-up, training or matches. The so-operation of all team groups is appreciated.

Dream Start For Senior Footballers
