Welcome

It is a real pleasure to be able to write this welcome to the Bourne End Academy Sixth Form Prospectus, introducing the variety of courses on offer and the wide range of opportunities available to enrich and develop the academic and

personal development of the students in our special and distinctive Sixth Form. Our Sixth Form is designed to ensure our students achieve to their full potential,

attaining high quality examination results in an environment which balances their need for independence against our exceptional levels of care, support and guidance. Whilst Bourne End Academy is an integrated 11 to 18 school, the

Sixth Form is fortunate in having its own designated area and Sixth Form Centre, enabling students to be independent and self-reliant. However, our

students are very much part of the whole school community; in this way, they participate as role models and leaders of the school through a range of opportunities, contributing to the life of the school and also preparing

themselves for their future roles in society. High standards and expectations are evident throughout the school and the Sixth Form, with the central theme to the

Sixth Former’s life being academic study, developing the students’ knowledge, understanding and skills. In addition to this, our aim is very much to prepare all of our Sixth Form students for their futures, whatever that may be, whether in

university or employment. Our students must be prepared to compete with their peers across the country with confidence, personal integrity and the highest

qualifications they can achieve. Our aim is for students to leave us ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Whilst the majority of our Sixth Form students are from our own Bourne End

Academy Year 11 cohort, I am delighted that students feel able to join us from other schools. They soon become part of the thriving, sociable and

caring community that is a hallmark of our success and what being part of Bourne End Academy community is all about:

BELIEVE in themselves; the value of education; and in Bourne End Academy

ENGAGE in their learning and school with maximum effort to reach their full potential BOURNE END ACADEMY ASPIRE to be the very best they can be and never settle for less SIXTH FORM

A MESSAGE FROM OUR SIXTH FORM LEADER

Our Sixth Form offers excellent education, this is shown through our results which have continually improved year on year, and our value added progress measure shows that students at Bourne End Academy make more progress than the average Sixth Form student. This means that most of our students go on to their first choice of university and degree course.

Being a part of the BEA Sixth Form is more than just about academic qualifications though. It is also about being part of a community embracing the opportunities available. You will be able to develop your skills and network through our rich range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities.

Our ultimate aim is that the young people who study with us grow in maturity and independence, with the support and encouragement of the subject and pastoral staff, and with excellent academic results. They enjoy the privileges and freedom of being a Sixth Former and also benefit from regular tutoring and guidance from staff at a ‘Good’ Sixth Form. They leave us not only well- qualified, but also as mature and rounded individuals.

We believe we offer a very special Sixth Form experience and we as a school are very proud of Bourne End Academy Sixth Form that was rated ‘Good’ by the school’s most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2016.

The report says that Our most recent Ofsted

report (November 2016) ‘The Sixth Form sees each and every student as endorsed why we are so an individual, nurturing them to achieve their proud of our Sixth Form. best both inside and outside of the classroom.’ Judged as ‘Good’ the Ofsted report stated: However, more importantly perhaps are the views of our students who, “Teachers and students respond on results day, provided the following quotes to sum up their Sixth well to high expectations of Form experience. leaders.
