Dear Friends and Family of Saint Paschal Baylon,
For the past eleven years, we have gathered to celebrate the Feast of Saint Paschal Baylon. By spotlighting our faith, food, and fun, we offer our patrons a taste of hospitality while building pride in the Hillcrest community. We are still planning to celebrate this special feast, with some changes from previous years. Food - We will have take-out meal opportunities. On Thursday, May 20, an Italian feast will be provided by LaVera’s. On Friday, May 21, Teresa’s Pizza will be providing a delicious rib dinner. On Sunday, May 23, we hope to have a tailgate party in the parking lot with food provided by various food trucks. Entertainment - On Thursday, May 20, The Saint Paschal 8th graders are putting together a movie, together … A Musical Revue, which will be shown on the Mayfield Drive-In’s silver screen. On Sunday, May 23, local Illusionist, Rick Smith, will amaze the tailgaters. Raffles - You could go home with a $10,000 grand prize or one of several extravagant raffle baskets. We sincerely appreciate your patronage and generosity. Many thanks to those who placed business and personal ads in this year’s festival booklet. Please support these businesses. FROM THE FOOD TO THE In the early 1950’s, Most Reverend Edward Hoban, Bishop of Cleveland, saw the need for a new parish, ATMOSPHERE IT’S THE east of Cleveland, in what would become the suburbs. In 1953, the Congregation sent Father John O’Brien and Brother Edward Mullen to establish the parish of Saint Paschal Baylon. They arrived and took residence in an old farmhouse on our present property. The new parish originally celebrated weekend liturgies at the Richmond Theatre on Mayfield Road. As the community began to grow, they quickly committed themselves to building a school and temporary worship space. Construction on the school and what we now know as O’Brien Hall began in 1954. The school opened in 1955. In 1956, the present parish rectory was built. Once the school opened, it became evident that more space was needed. A new gym was added and more classrooms were constructed. In 1969, we broke ground for our church and inaugurated our new worship space with First Communion in 1971. In 2000, we added the Jette Gym and our Parish Life Center. Our growth has not just been in “brick and mortar”. When Father O’Brien first established the parish community of Saint Paschal, there were about 100 families. Today, we are more than 2,000 families. Our school has nearly 400 students. Our parishioners participate in nearly 60 different ministries and parish organizations. Since our founding in 1953, our parish has experienced much growth and development.
