Dear friends in Christ, Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This month our gracious Lord has protected us from all the natural calamities and untoward setbacks. However some of our economically weak members have been reeling under agonies due to grossly inadequate protection for their homes to withstand the natural calamities, in particular, the incessant rains. Therefore it is necessary to identify such houses of our own members and extend requisite maintenance/ modifications in those houses so that they should feel that the church cares for them. Similarly, our State is facing an unusual flood situation for over one month. Many of our fellow beings are undergoing a tragic phase in their life due to loss of their dear ones, property and houses. As church we have to rise to the occasion and extend helping hands to those in need through special offertory, door collection etc. “Let us join our hands together in prayer to LIFT our Nation to the Lord”. The 72nd Independence day was observed by the church on August 15, 2018 at 8 am by hoisting the National flag and singing the National anthem. The event was co- ordinated by CEYF. 1. Church Committee Meeting In August, regular church committee meeting was held on 12/08/2018 Sunday and continuation meeting on 19/08/2018. 2. General Body Meeting The church general body meeting conducted on 29/07/2018 was attended by 319 church members. The meeting started at 10:30 am and ended at 1.30 pm. The budget for the year 2018-2019 of the church was unanimously passed. 3. Installation of Deacon On 29-7-2018 (sunday), the installation of Mr Jobin. B.David was held at 8:30 am Malayalam Service. The installation ceremony was conducted by Rev.D.Jacob 4. Installation service of new office bearers of South Kerala Diocese for the triennium 2018-2021 On 06/08/2018, the installation of the following new office bearers was held at MM Church at 9 am. in a solemn service led by Rt. MM Church extends helping hand Our church extends helping hand to flood affected victims staying at relief centres in Trivandrum by providing clothes and other essential materials. Besides, bedsheets where also handed over to the Trivandrum City Corporation Councillor Mrs. Bindhu Sreekumar for distribution to the flood affected victims of Central and Northern districts of Kerala. 7. YFF Charity Fest 2018 Sharing our blessings with others Charity Fest-2018, an initiative to help the poor and the needy, organized by the Young Family Fellowship of the CSI M.M.Church was held on 15th of August 2018 at TJM Hall. About 5 lakh rupees could be collected through this event. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who supported with their prayers, presence and participation. The Church of South India came into being in September, 1947 as an integrated Church to bring a union of Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian and the South India United Church in the four Southern States of Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. On September 21, 1947 in St. George’s Cathedral, Madras, the Church of South India was inaugurated. The CSI is a united and uniting Church striving towards greater peace, closer fellowship and fuller life. The movable and immovable properties of the Church of South India are governed by a legal holding body constituted as the Church of South India Trust Association. The CSI-TA was registered in September, 1947 under Section 26 of the Indian Companies Act 1913 (now Section 25 of the India Companies Act 1956) as a Religious and Charitable Company which has no business character with no profit motive. The entire properties of the Churches in Union have been transferred to CSI-TA. The jurisdiction of the CSI-TA covers the 26 Dioceses and other Units under their control spread over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Union Territory of Pondicherry, Burma and Ceylon. The history of the formation of CSI can be traced to the following developments: 1919 – Appeal issued by 33 Christian leaders (31 of them Indians) after a Conference at Tranquebar. 1919 – The S.I.U.C decides to open negotiations on the basis outlined in this appeal. 1920 – The Anglicans agree to negotiate. 1925 – The Methodists join in negotiations. 1929 - The 1st Edition of the Scheme of Union. 1941 – The 7th Edition of the Scheme of Union. 1943 – The Methodists approve. 1945 – The General Council of the C.I.B.C (Anglican) approves. 1946 – The S.I.U.C General Assembly approves. 1947 – September 27, Inauguration of the Church of South India. The CSI is the Church constituted by the Union, in 1947, of the Madras, Madura, Malabar, Jaffna, Kannada, Telugu and Travancore Church Councils of the South India United Church; the South India Province of the Methodist Church, comprising the Madras, Trichinopoly, Hederabad and Mysore districts and the dioceses of Madras, Dornakal, Tinnevelly and Travancore and Cochin in the Church of India, Burma and Ceylon, in which in 1950 merged the North Tamil Church Council of the South Indian

The Head Quarters of the CSI /Office of the CSI Synod / Secretariat is situated at 5, Whites Road, Royapettah, Chennai (Madras) – 600 014 having its Executive Committee and Working Committee with the following officers namely: Moderator, Dy. Moderator, General Secretary CSI & Hon. Secretary CSITA, Treasurer CSI & Hon. Treasurer CSITA. The Synod is the highest representative body of the Church of South India, its supreme governing and legislative body and the visible symbol of its unity. The CSI is governed by a written constitution on the basis of union as a permanent record of the intentions and desires of the Churches by the Union of which the Church has been formed. The salient features of the CSI constitution are highlighted in the Preamble, The Mission of the Church, The Ministry of the Church and the Governing Principles of the Church. The CSI Synod functions with the support of six major departments having well defined aims and objectives: 1.Department of Pastoral Concerns 2.Department of Diaconal Concerns 3.Department of Mission and Evangelism 4.Department of Ecumenical Relations and Ecological Concerns 5.Department of Communication 6.Department of Youth *Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS), an Association of Churches and missions founded in 1972 has been one of the strongest partners of CSI in doing God’s mission. *The Women’s Fellowship has been one of the effective bodies of CSI which works towards a meaningful ministry among the needy and poor, oppressed and the marginalized women and children. *CSI Order of Sisters are involved in pastoral ministry and children ministry; some are working as professionals in charge of training centers, homes and projects run by the Order of Sisters. *The Synod overseas the functioning of the Council of CSI Congregations in North America. *The CSI is a member in the Governing Councils of several theological colleges in South India, the most prominent being the United Theological College, Bangalore. The Communion of Churches in India, formed in 1978 is a visible expression, in common action to the unity that the Church of South India, Church of North India and the Marthoma Church already have, because of their being in full communion with one another, their common acceptance of the Scriptures and the Creeds, and their mutual acceptance of one another’s Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry.

18 N¿®v thmbnkv ˛ sk]vXw-_¿ 2018 The CSI is affiliated to the National Council of Churches in India, Christian Conference of Asia, Council for World Mission and the World Council of Churches - head quartered in Nagpur, Thailand, London and Switzerland respectively. The logo of the Church of South India has an in-depth meaning and challenges us for unity, solidarity, liberation and celebration. It is a well knit and dynamic combination of the Cross, the Lotus and the Fire. The Cross in the logo of the CSI , all the four sites are equal in dimension or both the vertical and the horizontal measures are of the same dimensions. This challenges us that service should be rendered to everyone irrespective of caste, colour and creed. In spite of the Lotus being rooted in the stinking and stagnated waters, lotus blossoms above t he water without a blemish. This concept of Lotus challenges us to be above everything while placed in the midst of a sinful world. The petals of the lotus in the CSI logo are like the flames of fire. The flames of fire signify the power of the Holy Spirit. The Church like that of fire should be quenching all injustices in the world at large so that the ministries catered to the people would reach the people without any hindrances. The motto engraved in the logo is the high priestly prayer: “That they all may be one”, which is not only a call for the union of traditions but also a call for union of people. In the midst of this pluralistic society, the motto of the CSI calls for oneness of mind (Metonia), oneness of fellowship (Koinonia), oneness of Service (Diakonia) and above all calls for a one family of God (Oikos). CSI South Kerala Diocese The London Missionary Society (LMS), now the Council for World Mission, commenced its work in South Travancore in 1806. Vedmanickam Maharasan Desikar was the first Christian who invited William Tobias Ringeltaube the first Missionary to come to Travancore. He crossed into Aruvamozhi on April 15th 1806. The South India United Church (S.I.U.C) was formed on 25th July 1907 with nine member Church denominations of which the South Travancore LMS Church was one. The South Travancore Church Council was constituted in 1921 with t he Tamil and Malayalam Church put together. The CSI was inaugurated on 27/09/1947 and the member churches adopted episcopacy as part of the church order. @The Rt. Rev. A. H. Legg, was consecrated on 27/09/1947 and installed as the first Bishop of the South Travancore Diocese on 13/10/1947. The South Travancore Diocese was bifurcated into the Kanyakumari Diocese and the South Kerala Diocese in 1959 and the Rt. Rev. A.H. Legg continued to be the first Bishop of the South Kerala Diocese till he returned to England in 1965. @The Rt. Rev. William Paul Vachalan was consecrated and instated as Bishop in the South Kerala Diocese on 027/07/1967. He passed away on 05/11/1972 while in service. @The Most Rev. Dr. Isaiah Jesudasan was consecrated and instated as Bishop on 5th August, 1973. He served the South Kerala Diocese till retirement on 14th February, 1990 on completion of 65 years.
