The entire Gainesville music scene was built around songs: Top Forty songs on the radio, songs on albums, original songs performed on stage by bands and other musical ensembles. The late sixties was a golden age of rock and pop music and the rise of the rock band as a musical entity. As the counterculture marched for equal rights and against the war in Vietnam, a sonic revolution was occurring in the recording studio and on the concert stage. New sounds were being created through multitrack recording techniques, and record producers such as Phil Spector and George Martin became integral parts of the creative process. Musicians expanded their sonic palette by experimenting with the sounds of sitar, and through sound-modifying electronic ef- fects such as the wah-wah pedal, fuzz tone, and the Echoplex tape-de- lay unit, as well as a variety of new electronic keyboard instruments and synthesizers. The sound of every musical instrument contributed toward the overall sound of a performance or recording, and bands were begin- ning to expand beyond the core of drums, bass, and a couple guitars.

Harris in Chicago Illinois on Feb. 23, 1905. The first meeting was held in Room 711 of the Unity Building. Four prospective members attended that first meeting. From there Rotary spread immediately to San Francisco California, and on November 12, 1908 Club # 2 was chartered. From San Francisco, Homer Woods, the founding President, went on to start clubs in Oakland and in 1909 traveled to southern California and founded the Rotary Club of Los Angeles (LA 5) In 1914, at a fellowship meeting of 6 western Rotary Clubs H. J. Brunnier, Presi- dent of the Rotary Club of San Francisco, awoke in the middle of the night with the concept of Rotary Districts. He summoned a porter to bring him a railroad sched- ule of the United States, which also included a map of the USA, and proceeded to map the location of the 100 Rotary clubs that existed at that time and organized them into 13 districts.

  • Began Her Professional Career in 1966 at the Cafe Wha? in Greenwich
SUSAN COLLINS began her professional career in 1966 at the Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village singing with Jimi Hendrix in Jimmy James and the Blue Flames, the ground-breaking guitarist’s group just before he left NYC for London. Then a sophomore straight out of Brooklyn’s Lafayette High, Susan was managed by singer-songwriter Richie Havens, with whom she later attended Woodstock, flying in by helicopter. In 2011 Susan’s close friend and musical director of 35 years, Paul Shaffer stated: “Susan Collins is my favorite singer…period!” Paul calls her “my BFF and a singer’s singer - what a voice!” In 2006 Susan sang a song she co-wrote with Paul, on a bill with Harry Shearer, Marshall Crenshaw, and They Might Be Giants at NYC’s Canal Room. Of this performance, Fox News.com’s Roger Friedman wrote: “Collins is terrific. She can hold her own with Ronnie Spector any day of the week.” Susan appeared with Spector, Lesley Gore, Lala Brooks et. al. at Lincoln Center’s girl group tribute SHE’S GOT THE POWER in the summer of 2011. YOU CAN TAKE THE GIRL OUTTA BROOKLYN, Susan’s autobiographical musical revue (originated at bergenPac NJ before its NYC run), tells the story of how she started singing a cappella on the street corner of her housing project in the 1960s and went on to a career in the music business, making key vocal contributions to numerous hit records, TV shows, movies and advertising. Recipient of the ASCAP Award for songwriting, Susan’s first day job was writing for legendary producer/TV host and 2012 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, the late Don Kirshner.

  • Review - DVD - Shaggy ~ Live at Chiemsee Reggae Summer 1998
Review - DVD - Shaggy ~ Live At Chiemsee Reggae Summer 1998 http://www.reggae-vibes.com/rev_dvd/shaggylive.htm Title Live At Chiemsee Reggae Summer 1998 Artist Shaggy Date December 29 - 2008 Label Charly Films/MVD Visual Format DVD - Region Free Languages English Subtitles None Length 200 minutes (approx.) Producer/Director Jean Luc Young Shaggy's family moved to the United States from Jamaica and they settled in the neighborhood of Flatbush, Brooklyn, located in New York City. Shaggy moved to Valley Stream, New York, and made one of his own recording studios in the town. In 1988, he joined the United States Marine Corps as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewman with 5th Battalion, 10th Marines. While enlisted in the Marines he served during Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War. It was during this time that Shaggy perfected his signature singing voice, breaking the constant monotony of running and marching cadences with his flair for inflection. It is also where he got the inspiration for his song "Boombastic." In the early 1990’s Shaggy entered the scene with his deep throaty remix of the Jamaican traditional "Oh Carolina", the first major Reggae record to come out of the dancehall underground. The same year, Shaggy appeared on Kenny Dope's hip hop album "The Unreleased Project". He worked together with producers such as Sting Intl., Don One (who cut his first track), Lloyd 'Spiderman' Campbell and Robert Livingston. Soon after, the steady dub rhythm of the platinum selling "Boombastic" solidified Shaggy as a dancehall hit-maker winning the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

  • Connie Francis America's Sweetheart of Song
Celebrity Profile Connie Francis America’s Sweetheart of Song Photos Courtesy of Connie Francis At merely the age of 4, Concetta Rosemarie Franconero made her debut at Olympic Park in Irvington, New Jersey, singing “Anchors Away,” while accompanying herself on the accordion. Connie developed a love of music from the first time her father, George played the concertina that his father brought from Italy in 1905. From that point on, music became Connie’s world. Connie’s father took her to every radio and tel- evision audition in existence so she could reap the benefits and experiences of live per- formances. Little did young Concetta fathom that she would become the world’s most popular female singer and the number one best selling female recording artist of all time. At age 11, Connie was a regular on “Marie Moser’s Starlets” local Newark TV show nd later appeared on the “Ted Mack Amateur Hour.” The following year she made yet another national TV appearance on the “Arthur Godfrey Talent Scout Show,” finally ending up with a four-year stint as regular on “Startime,” a TV show that featured tal- ented child performers. The show was produced by the late George Scheck, who would become her lifetime manager. Connie never missed a week in her four years on the show, showing indeed her stability and stamina as a trouper. In her early teens she was sought after to make demo recordings for music publishers who were impressed with her distinctive voice. However, at the sessions she was told deliberately to imitate other artists for whom they wanted to pitch their songs.
