Tel : (052) 23268. -------- DID YDU KNOW ?-------- • Although the County Board declared Fethard the first county football chart:lP ion in 1887 yet for some reason Templemore were allowed to represent Tipperary in the All-Ireland Championship of that year. * In 1920 Fethard brought the last All-Ireland Senior Football vitory to Tipperary, In that year they beat Mullinahone in the final, which began one hour late because of the late arrival of both team. * Between 1917 & 1924 Fethard won seven county finals in a row, no final was played in 1921. The following players took part in these memorable victories: Ned O'Shea, John O'Shea, Ned Cummins, Gust McGrath, Jer. Phelan, Ned Connolly Tom Tubridy, Jim Gorman, Tom Hogan, Jack Delaney, Mick Gunn, Con Fitzgerald, Dan Mullins, John Weston, Jack Brett. Reserves: Tom Mackey, Dick Mackey, Tom1 Conway . .. In 1934 Dick Allen was the first Fethard man to be picked on a Munster Senior Football team and wore the royal blue jersey of Munster for the next six years . .. The 1955 County football final, in which Loughmore·Castleiney beat Arravale, was played at Cashe!. .. When Loughmore-Castleiney defeated Fethard in the 1983 final at eashel the victorious side was: J. Kiely, T. Ryan, M. Kiely, S. Fogarty, P. Treacy, M. Meahger, E. Brennan, G. Stapleton, T. McGrath, M. McGrath, P. McGrath, J. Cormack, P. Brennan, J. Treacy, M. Walsh. .. Eddie Webster was a regular on the county senior football team and was on the successful Division II National League win in 1971. In the same year he was on the ~ Munster Railway Cup team that lost the final but played on the successful teams of 1975 & 1976. .. The ball was thrown in by the famous Bill Ryan Laha (R.I.P.) in the 1987 countY football final played at Cashe!. , TWO WINNING COMBINATIONS FETHARD & YOUR AVONMORE HOME & FARM SHOP Best of Luck to Fethard in the Final Suppliers of Groce ries, Giftware, Glassware, Paints • Painting Accessories, Hand Tools and Electrical Goods, #'C~ Phone (052) 31108 (Five Lines) '~ AVONMORE CRE AMERY, FETHARD ======== FAILTE======== On behalf of the Gaels of Tipperary I should like to welcome the teams from Fethard and Loughmore-Castleiney to Ll!4hy Park, Cashel for today's senior foot ball {ina/. Both teams have contributed enonnous/y to the game offootball in the county and they come to today 's final with a fine tradition behind them. Perhard may be ahead in the record books for the number of titles won but that is no guarantee that they will be ahead of Loughmore-Castleiney when the final whistle is blown today. .. I should also like to welcome John Moloney and his offiCials who will preside at r today's game. John is one of our most distinguished referees with no less rh(UI six i;. All-Ireland senior football finals to his credit. There is an increased interest in football in the county at the moment. This is - the result of the Wlseeded draw in the Munster Senior football championship and the wonderful success of Clare in last year's final decider. l'hisyear Tipperary have a chance ofqualifying for the final for the first time since 1935. They play Limerick in the first round and the winners play Waterford in the semi-final. The possibility of making it to the final gives (oday's encounter an additional dimension and makes victory all the more desireable. Finally I want to thank all tnose involved in the organi1;atinn of today 's event and I look forward to a fine sporting encounter. Mo bhuiochas diobh uile. PAIRC/ UI- LAOCHDHA CAISEAL SAMHAIN 3, 1985 / / CLAR OIFIGIUIL LUACH 50p FAILTE It is with great pleasure that I welcome the four teams to today', county football finals. Arravale Rove,., have 8 distinguished history streb::hing back to the early days of the association. In those far-off days football was ex teramely strong in Tipperary. An indication of that strength can be seen in the outcome of the 1894 championship. There were three teams from the town among the eleven that contested the football championship and the two that reached the final were ArraYale Rovers and Tipperary Shamrocks, ArrllYaie won by 2-' to nil even without the services of their well-known captain. Jack Quane, who had gone to America. Another famous team from the town, Bohercrowe, won the county championship in 1894 and 1896 and were back again in 1899. Tipperary Town won in 1902 and Tipp 01eary's in 1910. Surely lin impressive record I Loughmore-Castleiney's record may not stretch back 50 far but it is also II proud one. The club won its first county final in 1940 Md were success ful 00 seven occasions alto gether. In 1955 they defeated to<lay's OPPOSition. Two men from the parish played on the TIpperary selection against Dublin on 'Bloody Sunday', Bill Ryan Laha and Jim Ryan. Both men woo All-Ireland medals when Tipperary won their last football AII ·lreland in 1920. The contestants in to<lay's minor final ere Templemore Pholograph taken during the tour Md Fethard.

Girls from the parish are active participants in camogie and ladies football. For the main part this has been with clubs from the neighbouring parishes. There was an active ladies football club in the parish from 1975 to 1979. During this time they won 5 County Senior Titles and a Munster Club title in 1978 together with a number of underage successes. Camogie is the main sport at present with a number of the players achieving success at club school and inter county levels. This booklet sets out what the club's 5 year plan committee deem to be the crucial projects for completion over the next five years, to build on the work already done by members and deceased members down through the years in promoting Gaelic Games in our parish. The club will be looking for a positive contribution from all our members to help achieve the goals set out in the plan. It is important that these projects are completed so that Loughmore Castleiney GAA Club will continue to serve the players, members and supporters from our parish for many years into the future.

The attendance included John Moloney, Noel Morris, John Costigan, Pat Moroney, Seamus J., King and Michael TO’Meara. Seamus McCarthy was unable to be present. At the outset John Moloney was unanimously appointed chairman amd Michael O’Meara secretary. The chairman outlined the aims of the group, which were chiefly to honour annually persons over 70 years of age, who had given significant service to the G.A.A. in whatever capacity - player, official, groundsman, jersey carrier, tea maker, referee, umpire, etc. A sample of a framed certificate, which was presented annually in Dublin, was shown by the chairman to the meeting and the secretary undertook to get quotations for same. It was agreed that approximately 40 annual presentations would be made, i.e. an average of 10 per division. The consensus was that the general public should be asked to nominate suitable persons and justify why they were considered worthy. It was agreed that the presentations would be made in Brú Ború, Cashel on November 16th or 23rd and that the evening’s programme would consist of a chat, light refreshments and entertainment before the presentations. It was also agreed that the wives of the recipients be invited to the presentations.

On behalf of Mid Tipperary Board. I extend a hearty cead mile failte to one and all for our hurling showpiece here in Semple Stadium this evening. The teams taking part - Holycross and Loughmore - have reached this stage on merit and are very worthy contestants for highest honours in the Division. We look forward to those very keen rivals to provide a game in the best traditions of both clubs, a game to bring back memories of many epic finals in Mid Tipperary in former years, a sporting and manly game that will embrace all that is good in the game of hurling.
