I do not support legalization of marijuana for recreational use. When it comes to developing treatments for medical conditions and diseases, I think we need to consider a wide variety of solutions. As I'm sure you are aware, marijuana is currently classified as a schedule one substance which prohibits scientific research into its effectiveness. I support efforts on the federal level to reclassify it to a schedule two so accurate information can be obtained and the safety and dosage can be determined. Until we have further studies and more conclusive evidence about how marijuana can be used to successfully treat diseases without negatively impacting patients and families, I remain concerned about its use. In the meantime, substances like marinol have been shown to provide similar medical benefits to marijuana. Prescribed substances like this are more reliable and have fewer impurities GOVERNOR - R than organics. I agree with FDA approved medicines that are THC/cannabis based.
