  • DUBAI Cushman & Wakefield Global Cities Retail Guide
DUBAI Cushman & Wakefield Global Cities Retail Guide Cushman & Wakefield | Dubai | 2019 0 Dubai has developed into the retail hub of the Middle East and is the most sophisticated retail market in the region. The proliferation of retail development over the last ten years has led to Dubai having one of the highest retail to population densities in the world. It finished ahead of New York and London for shopping in TripAdvisor’s recently published second annual Cities Survey. Perhaps the best known of Dubai’s plentiful selection of retail malls is The Dubai Mall which is located in the heart of the prestigious Downtown Dubai and is one of the world’s most-visited retail and entertainment destination, having welcomed more than 80 million visitors annually over the last five years. Dubai Mall provides over 1,350 retail stores and over 200 food and beverage outlets, together with leisure and entertainment attractions. Its most recent expansion in 2017 provides connectivity to the attractions and amenities in the neighbouring Burj Khalifa. Other high- profile retail malls that dominate the retail market include Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Festival City. International retail brands are predominantly operated under license by ‘retail partners’ who hold licenses for multiple brands in their portfolios. These include groups such as Al Shaya, Landmark and Majid Al Futtaim. Often these retail operators can also be mall developers in their own right. These companies are very powerful in the retail sector and can make the difference between a new mall development securing attractive brands or struggling to attract the right brands and potential failure.

  • Elephant Parade Makes Middle East Debut in Dubai
From 24th October to 29th November 50 Elephant Parade statues will be displayed across Dubai Festival City Mall Oct 07, 2019 10:01 UTC ELEPHANT PARADE MAKES MIDDLE EAST DEBUT IN DUBAI From 24thOctober to 29thNovember 50 of the iconic baby elephant statues will be displayed across Dubai Festival City Mall. Fifty Elephant Parade art pieces are en route to Dubai Festival City Mall for the launch of the fourth annual IMAGINE show, Hathi’s Gardenon 24thOctober 2019. Elephant Parade, the world’s leading public art exposition, prepares to make its Middle-Eastern debut at the renowned retail establishment in its grand celebration of biggest and best IMAGINE show yet. Elephant Parade’s unveiling in ‘Hathi’s Garden’ aims to align international attitudes towards conservation – and the belief that art as a universal language can bring people of all cultures together to inspire people and paint a brighter future for the much-loved elephant. This new Elephant Parade comes at a time when the classification of the endangered status of elephants has been hotly debated at the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). After the extinction of the West African Black Rhinoceros, the need for events that raise awareness of endangered species are vital. With ‘Hathi’, the little elephant with the big heart being the star of the show, the IMAGINE show perfectly reflects the true story of Mosha, the baby Asian elephant whose legacy inspired the inception of Elephant Parade as a global movement. Dubai Festival City Mall’s IMAGINE shows have won two Guinness World Records - for their visual and sensory production that combines lights, lasers and water - fuses exceptional art and technology to create an unforgettable and seamless experience that perfectly mirrors Elephant Parade’s philosophy on the power of art to inspire people.

By Sarah Leemann and Elie Younes – HVS International … How much further will it grow? Is it really a supply-led market? Can a market correction be expected soon? What is a reasonable marketwide stabilised performance? All these questions have undoubtedly been discussed amongst industry professionals who have visited Dubai or have worked in the market over the last five years. Here is the story and probably some answers! Dubai, December 2004: again one of the top outperforming markets in the Middle East, according to HVS International’s annual survey. With RevPAR (rooms revenue per available room) of US$124 and GOPPAR (gross operating profit per available room)1 of US$110, Dubai ranked second behind Kuwait (which was still enjoying a high ADR and extraordinary demand due to the outbreak of and the ongoing war in Iraq). Dubai, October 2005: a limited amount of new hotel supply has entered the market since the beginning of the year, and the market continues to see excellent operating performances in terms of both occupancy and average room rate. Dubai has taken the lead in the region for the first three quarters of the year! We expect the market to experience accelerated growth (of more than 30%) in GOPPAR in 2005; this growth will be driven mainly by the considerable increase in average room rate.
