Controversial AMU’s VC expels Kashmiri student for Uri Attack FB post A Facebook post which was termed ‘objectionable’ led to the expulsion of a Kashmiri student from the controversial Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor and Ex-Indian Army General New Delhi: Student Mudassar Yusuf a resident of Srinagar had even apologised to the controversial AMU’s Vice Chancellor and Ex-Indian Army’s Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah for his Facebook post which was over the attack in Indian Occupied Kashmir. Mudassar was pursuing his MSc in Organic Chemistry. BJP Member from Aligarh, Satish Kumar Gautam had also written to the Vice Chancellor demanding stringent action against the student for his Facebook post. 17 soldiers were killed in an attack on Sunday at an Indian army base in Uri. Indian atrocities continue in the occupied valley and have resulted in the death of over 100 Kashmiris’ during the last 74 days. Earlier in 2014, a University in Meerut, Uttar Pardesh expelled 67 Kashmiri students for cheering for Pakistan in a match against India. The expulsion was later revoked. Menwhile Indian media reported that the Supreme Court of India on Monday said that according to UGC regulations, the Vice Chancellor must be an academician with at least 10 years of experience as a professor in a university, then why was a former army officer appointed as VC at AMU? The Supreme Court has raised questions on the appointment of a person of non-teaching background as the Vice Chancellor of prestigious Aligarh Muslim University. “You (AMU) are a central university. UGC regulations apply to you as they are mandatory. The VC must be an academician and he should be a person who has worked for at least 10 years as a professor in a university. If every other central university follows the Regulation why can’t AMU? Why to appoint a former army officer? We are not questioning his abilities. We are on the question whether his appointment is as per the UGC Regulations,” a bench comprising Chief Justice T S Thakur and A M Khanwilkar said. http://kashmirwatch.com/36178-2/

Aligarh: A Kashmiri student has been expelled from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for posting allegedly objectionable comments on Facebook, over the attack on army base in Uri. AMU Vice-Chancellor took a “very serious view” of the issue and expelled the student, who was pursuing MSc in Organic Chemistry, after personally probing the matter, university spokesman said. “The VC said that there is no scope whatsoever at AMU for tolerating any incident which smacks of anti-national sentiments,” the spokesman said. The student, Mudassar Yusuf from Srinagar, had offered his apologies to the Vice-Chancellor yesterday for posting the comments stating that he was “carried away by sentiments”, according to university sources. However, the university authorities decided to go ahead with his expulsion keeping in view the sensitivity of the matter, the sources said. BJP Lok Sabha Member from Aligarh, Satish Kumar Gautam, had written to the Vice- Chancellor demanding stringent action against the student for his Facebook post. http://nation.com.pk/international/20-Sep-2016/kashmiri-student-expelled-from-amu-for- commenting-on-uri-attack
