Mexico PROBABLE PITCHERS also plays an exhibition game against the Arizona Diamondbacks tomorrow at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick at 1:10 pm MT. • Team Mexico is in Jalisco’s Pool D bracket and offi cially begin WBC competition on Thursday, Tuesday, March 7 vs. Team Mexico (1:10pm) March 9 against Italy. Mexico is also scheduled to play Puerto Rico on Saturday, March 11 and Venezuela on Sunday, March 12. RHP Walker Lockett RHP Luis Mendoza • If they advance, Mexico will play their second round action at Petco Park in San Diego begin- LHP Christian Friedrich ning on Tuesday, March 14 through March 18. RHP Jose Ruiz • Petco Park will welcome the Classic for a third time when it hosts the second round pool. The downtown ballpark previously hosted the inaugural WBC semi-fi nals and fi nal in 2006 as well LHP Brad Wieck as second-round games in 2009. LHP Jose Torres • Two Padres, RHP Carlos Fisher and INF Luis Urias, are representing Team Mexico. • In all, the Padres have eight players donning their country’s uniform in the WBC: In addition LHP Kyle McGrath to Fisher and Urias, the Major League camp invites are Jhoulys Chacin (Venezuela), Jamie LHP Ryan Buchter Romak (Canada) and Yangervis Solarte (Venezuela)...on the minor league side, Jose Castillo (Venezuela), Josh Nalyor (Canada) and Bryan Rodriguez (Dominican Republic) are participating in the tournament. Wednesday, March 8 - OFF DAY MORE ON MEXICO: Mexico is currently ranked No. 6 in the world by the World Baseball Softball Confederation and No. 12 in the world by the International Baseball Federation. Thrusday, March 9 vs. Brewers (1:10pm) • The Mexican National Team fi nished in 11th place in the 2009 IBAF Baseball World Cup after going undefeated in the fi rst round of play. The team also earned bronze medals in the 2006 RHP Jarred Cosart TBA Central American and Caribbean Games and the Pan American Games, and a bronze medal in 2007 at the Pan American Games. • In the 2006 World Baseball Classic, Mexico fi nished Round One at the top of its pool fi nishing 2-1 and was later eliminated in Round Two after losing to Korea and Japan. Friday, March 10 at Angels (1:10pm) • In the 2009 World Baseball Classic, Team Mexico advanced to Round Two, but was defeated by Korea and Cuba to fi nish in eighth place.
