About Mumbai: Mumbai is the financial, commercial and entertainment capital of India. It is also one of the world's top ten centres of commerce in terms of global financial flow. From being an ancient fishing community and a colonial centre of trade, Mumbai has become South Asia's largest city and home of the world's most prolific film industry. Mumbai's business opportunities, as well as its potential to offer a higher standard of living, attract migrants from all over India, making the city a melting pot of many communities and cultures. Mumbai lies at the mouth of the Ulhas River on the western coast of India, in the coastal region known as the Konkan. Mumbai is bounded by the to the west. Many parts of the city lie just above sea level, with elevations ranging from 10 m to 15 m. The architecture of the city is a blend of Gothic Revival, Indo-Saracenic, Art Deco, and other contemporary styles. Most of the buildings during the British period, were built in Gothic Revival style with a variety of European influences such as German gables, Dutch roofs, Swiss timbering, Roman arches, Tudor casements, and traditional Indian features. Mumbai has the second largest number of Art Deco buildings in the world after Miami. Mumbai has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Take a look at the beaches in Mumbai to witness some of God's amazing miracles- the magnificent sunsets over the Arabian Sea. Culture: It is a blend of traditional festivals, food, music, and theatres. The city offers a cosmopolitan and diverse lifestyle with a variety of food, entertainment, and night life, available in a form and abundance comparable to that in other world capitals. In Mumbai, night is when the day truly begins, which is why Mumbai is also referred to as the 'city that never sleeps'. It is the place where picturesque views, scenic structures, diverse cultures, traditions and glamour are merged together to represent India as a whole.

Climate: Mumbai has a tropical climate, specifically a tropical wet and dry climate , with seven months of dryness and peak of rains in July. The cooler season from December to February is followed by the summer season from March to June. In September the intensity of rainfall decreases. The monsoons officially end in the 4th week of November. November has cooler weather. The mean maximum daily temperatures reach 34 °C while daily mean minimum temperature stays at 21.0 °C. Transport: Mumbai is well connected with Road, Rail, Air and Sea routes with all the major cities of the country. Public transport systems in Mumbai include the popularly known as Local, Monorail, Metro, buses, taxis and auto rickshaws . Auto rickshaws are allowed to operate only in the suburban areas of Mumbai, while taxis are allowed to operate throughout Mumbai, but generally operate in . Taxis and rickshaws in Mumbai are a convenient, economical, and easily available means of transport.

Introductory Theme: Instructional Livestock Farm Complex (ILFC) is conducting regular need based short term training courses to the unemployed youth and entrepreneurs for self-employment in animal husbandry sector. The dept. has developed farmers friendly technologies viz., loose housing, culture silage, azolla cultivation technology, vermicomposting and fodder museum etc. for the farmers. Short term training courses of eight days duration in specialized areas of veterinary for capacity building of field veterinarians and extension functionaries of the state of veterinary, agriculture and allied departments in thrust areas are planned for transfer of technologies to the field workers for doubling farmer’s income. The model training courses is focused for the veterinarians with view to develop entrepreneurs among the poor farmers especially landless, marginal farmers /unemployed youth so that they can start standard animal husbandry practices for doubling farmers income by adopting modern animal husbandry practices About the venue: The Bombay Veterinary College (BVC) was established on 2nd August, 1886 with Prof. J. H. Steel, a person with experience and dynamism, as its first principal. The college was initially housed in the vast compound of Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals; established in 1883 by Sir D. M. Petit Baronet. Some of the buildings belonging to the hospital were handed over to the ruling British Government for establishing the college. Initially, two large lecture rooms, a library, a museum, pharmacy, office rooms for the Principal and Professors and quarters for the Resident Veterinary Officers were created. The Government of Bombay constructed a post-mortem room and the dissection hall in hospital premises and later other buildings such as students’ hostels, shoeing forge were added gradually. A three storied building with Roman Gothic architecture, called Path- Bacteriological Laboratory built by Sir D.M. Petit was also handed over to the Government in 1891.At present in Parel campus new faculty building, OPD with hostel for undergraduate and postgraduate students are available. Realizing the limitations to further expand activities at Parel campus owing to the intense urbanization at Parel by the end of 20th century, a huge stretch of 146 acres of land was acquired by the college at Goregaon adjacent to the in 1978.At present Mumbai Veterinary College, Goregaon campus is set up for undergraduate courses along with fodder farm, Instructional Livestock Farm Complex(ILFC) and Polyclinic for practical’s/hands on of students in animal husbandry practices.

All the classes and practical’s will be conducted at Instructional Livestock Farm Complex (ILFC), Mumbai Veterinary College, Goregaon and lodging, boarding will be made available at new Zealand hostel, Goregaon / Parel campus as per availability

Nominations: Nominations are invited from field extension functionaries, scientists, working in agriculture and other allied departments of State Government, Union Territories, State Agriculture Universities, Krishi Vidyan Kendras, and ICAR Institutes in the country. As the entries for the MTC are limited to 20, nominations will be considered on ‘First come- First serve’ basis. The interested candidates can apply on A4 sized paper in the prescribed format of ‘Registration form’ provided overleaf. A softcopy of Registration form can be downloaded from our official website ‘mvc.ac.in’. Please e-mail an advance copy of the registration form to “mvcmtc2019 @gmail.com” or “[email protected]”. Last date for registration is 18 November, 2019.

TA & DA: Admissible T.A. & D.A. of the participants nominated by SAUs/KVKs/ICAR may be borne by their respective organisations/ institutes. However, all the participants may avail the lodging/ boarding and other facilities by the Mumbai Veterinary College, Mumbai. Reimbursement of travelling expenses to the trainees nominated by State Development Departments shall be made as per their entitlement and GOI norms specified in the Guidelines for organizing MTCs.
