I climbed well up into the hills to snap this shot and others, but I liked this one the best. There is still a lot of gold in these hills, as this area is not far from the Brockman where much of the early gold came from. BA1343/16 /29 Derek Keene The names of these three 1997 children comes easy as they are my favourite kids, but how they are related is just a touch more difficult. The children are Rina Taylor, Corin Taylor, and Sharazz McDonald. Rina and Corin's mother is Sandra Phillips. Both Sandra and Sharazz have the same mother Shirley McDonald. So although Rina as a year older than Sharazz, Sharazz is her auntie. BA1343/16 /30 Derek Keene Children of Halls These two cheeky looking 1997 Creek. boys are Levi Copley and Cassius Copley. BA1343/16 /34 Malcolm Halls Creek Airport During 1996 word got 1996 Edwards around that the Halls Creek airport was going to become an all weather facility. New drainage was going in and one runway ws going to be laid with bitumen. With this in mind I sent Malcolm up to take some aerial photos of the runway before anything began. This is the best of those photos taken in June 1996. Work on the runway started in November. BA1343/16 /35 Malcolm Halls Creek Airport Despite being troubled by 1997 Edwards the persistent wet season the contractors were able to finish the new bituminised runway and associated works early in the new year. However it was later in the year before I was able to send Malcolm up to take some photos of the new runway. He did a great job in taking the photo from exactly the same place as the 1996 photo. This is very hard to do from a plane, but the two photos match perfectly.

BA1343/16 /80 Derek Keene The Old Police After 37 years service the 1997 Station. end was in sight for the old police station, and all I can add here in regards to these photos is going, going GONE!! BA1343/16 /81 Lorie Dean This photo of the old 1959 police station at old Halls Creek was taken in 1959, just as it's official life as an operational police station was coming to an edn. Built in 1918 of mud brick construction it had lasted for over 40 years in the harsh climate of the Kimberley. It was being replaced by a new police station at the nine mile as the new town of Halls Creek was referred to by the old timers. But what goes around comes around, and that new police station was now also being replaced. Photo taken by Mrs Lorie Dean Manager of the hostel for school children.

BA1343/16 /83 Alan Archer The old police station Alan Archer, an officer with 1960 and police houses the Department of being built 1960. Meteorology snapped this photo of the new police station and the new police houses being built early in 1960. Bottom left of the photo the brand new concrete stumps of the police station can be seen and right in the centre of teh photo are the stumps for the new house for the police officer in charge, or sergeant's residence. These buildings were all completed in 1960, and the police moved in from the old town later that year. BA1343/16 /84 Derek Keene The old police station In 1997, after 37 ears, and 1997 and police houses after waiting months for the being pulled down contractors to pull down 1997 the old sergeant's house the concrete stumps were finally exposed again to daylight, and I took this much awaited photo. The two photos on these pages and the next two pages is what history is all about.

So once again I called on Malcolm to do a bit of aerial photography for me, with the whole police block of land firmly in mind. this photo shows the entire police block as it was in March 1993 before any building had began. The new jail did not turn up until October 1993, the new houses were built in 1994 and the new police station in 1996-1997. Even the new jail had to [be] relocated in 1997 to make way for the new station. The photo below was taken just four and a half years later. What a difference a few years make!! BA1343/16 /86 Malcolm The Police Station When I asked Malcolm to 1997 Edwards complex 1997 take the annual aerial photos of the town I gave him the 1993 photo of the police station complex and asked him to take the 1997 photo from much the same position. I was hoping they would match up, just like the two airport runway photos seen earlier in this album. Comparing the two photos on these pages, Malcolm and the pilot did a great match-up. In the four and a half year interval between these two photos
