GAME PREVIEW For the third time this week – we present the Cape Breton Eagles versus your Halifax Mooseheads. The teams have split the three-game mini-series thus far with the road team winning in both games. The latest matchup saw Halifax lead from start to finish in a 5-2 victory Wednesday night at Centre 200. Rookie Markus Vidicek played arguably his best game of the season by scoring twice and adding a terrific assist on a Landon Miron goal as the 16-year-old stayed atop the QMJHL rookie scoring leaders with 20 points. These teams have met a total of seven times this season with the Mooseheads sporting a 3-3-1-0 record vs Cape Breton. Fans are back inside Scotiabank Centre for the first time since November for this one but if you’re not able to be at the game, you can watch on Eastlink channels 10 or 610, listen on NEWS 957 or subscribe to the QMJHL webcast at https://qmjhl.neulion.com/qmjhl/. Enjoy the game everyone! SCOTTY’S 3 WHOPPERS OF THE GAME FINAL GAME SITTING Forward Zachary L’Heureux finishes his three-game suspension tonight after he was handed the sentence for a check to the head vs Charlottetown last week. The 17-year-old 2021 NHL Draft prospect has shown flashes of his incredible talent this season but hasn’t hit the consistent stride many were expecting when he came to Halifax in a blockbuster deal during the offseason. He is eligible to return to the lineup tomorrow against the Islanders and it’s a chance to start fresh, work hard, play smart and show the scouts why he has been touted as a first-round pick. OFFENSIVE D Two players that have stood out for the Eagles this season are their overage defencemen Jarrett Baker and Nathan Larose. The veteran blueliners log a ton of minutes and are first and second in scoring for Cape Breton as well. Baker leads the way with 23 points. Larose is not far behind with 20 points and is the only current member of the team with double-digit goals with 12. IN THE GROOVE You have to feel good for a player like Landon Miron of the Mooseheads. The Cole Harbour native went undrafted in the QMJHL, signed on as a free agent with the Moose and forced his way onto the roster with outstanding numbers in Midget. He’s suddenly producing consistently in an increased role on this squad and has picked up five points in his last two games. He’s a polite, quiet kid who goes about his business and works hard. Count me as someone who is rooting for him.
