November 29, 2020 St. Faustina Kowalska Parish Page 3 Dear Parishioners and Friends, Advent means "coming" (derived from the Latin word adventus). It is a time of liturgical preparation for us to relive the birth of the Son of God from Mary's womb "in the fullness of time" (Gal 4:4). It is a time of true hope for all people, a time of new perspectives, new challenges. However, it is also associated with the need for change, rejection of the old way of life, the joy of waiting and the willingness to meet. "Watch and pray that you may not fall into temptation" (Mk 14:38). "Watch ... the spirit is zealous, but the body is weak" (Mt 26:41). "Stay awake and be firm in the faith" (1 Cor 16:13). "Watch with endurance" (Eph 6:18). “Be sober! Stay awake! " (1P 5,8). Repetitive exhortations express the fundamental conviction: that man, a historical being, is subject to fatigue. He cannot, on his own, break free from overwhelming weaknesses, vices and sins. Every Christian must be convinced that no one can be sure of his endurance, and that the greatest danger lies in those who think they have come to a point of balance that they need no precaution. The New Testament calls us to watch, tells us that Satan seeks to deprive us of the joy of faith and the hope of glory of eternal life. We are always attacked on these essential points. We must therefore be vigilant, knowing that there is no rest in this struggle and that at any moment we may be overwhelmed by sadness and discouragement, and that our spirit will dissipate in external joys that weaken faith. The prophet then laments and asks God: "Why, O Lord, do you allow us to wander far from Your ways, so that our hearts become insensitive to the fear of You?" An insensitive heart is a symbol of insensitivity, a lack of vigilance and confusion. Hence the fervent cry, "May the heavens be torn and come down." This request is reflected in the ancient song about the Mother of God: Rorate caeli desuper, ie., "Drain the dew, heaven." Actually, this longing for the Savior, for His grace, is the sentiment of every Advent song. The Old Testament’s hope of the chosen people, however, rests on strong foundations: “And yet, Lord, You are our father. We are the clay and you are our creator. We are all the work of your hands." The apostle Paul returned to the theme of vigilance and perseverance in prayer many times. He also assured the community in Corinth that their expectations were fulfilled in Christ and they were enriched in everything: "in every word and in every knowledge, for the testimony of Christ has been preserved in you, so that you will not experience lack of any grace, awaiting the appearance of our Lord Jesus, Christ”. For the watchful and faithful, the Lord will not miss anything. The reflection of God's goodness and generosity is the Gospel’s "man who went on a journey". Before the expedition, each one had specific tasks. He left his house to his servants, entrusted them with "taking care of everything" (all of his property), and "commanded the doorman to keep watch". "Taking care of everything" is nothing more than entrusting a person with the gift of life - a great treasure placed in his hands. Nobody knows when the Lord will return, when He will demand an account for the good entrusted. The evangelist only warns that "when he unexpectedly comes, may He not find [us] sleeping." Let us, therefore, be persistent in prayer during Advent. Let us also ask for the intercession of the Virgin Mary, that during Advent weeks we may wait with her, our brothers and sisters, may a change of heart take place in us, and from it a life in which despite difficulties, discouragement, and disappointment, we will be devoted to Christ and we will find refuge in God's hands. God bless everyone who understands the difficult situation of the parish related to the painful closure of the parish of St. Camillus, St. Jane de Chantal, and St. Jane de Chantal School and the formation of the new parish of St. Faustina Kowalska. In addition, a great deal of pain is created by the new situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic. God bless all those who support and help those who are going through this painfully difficult time. God bless all those who support our parish with prayer and sacrificial offerings.
