HEADCOACH ASSISTANTCOACH Lindsay Diehl, 1st season Kylie Bengtson, 1st season 2 LINDSAYDIEHL HEADCOACH ~ 1STSEASON Lindsay Diehl was hired to be the new head softball coach at Indian Hills in July 2018, returning to the school where she was an All-American player. Diehl came back to lead the Warrior program after coaching stints at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge and Clarke High School in Osceola. Diehl is excited to be back at IHCC. “Coming back to Indian Hills is like coming back home,” she said. “My time spent playing here were two of the best years of my life. Being a Warrior changed the way I played the game, and it’s where I fell in love with softball. I’m anxious to continue the strong tradition of Indian Hills softball and look forward to what I can bring to the program.” Over the past seven years Diehl’s Clarke teams compiled an overall record of 154-90, winning four South Central Conference championships and making three appearances in the state tournament. They won the Class 3A state title in 2014 after losing in the championship game the year before. Diehl was named the district coach of the year three times at Clarke. Her last team finished with a 17-14 record, one win shy of another state tourney berth. Diehl graduated from Clarke and was recruited by Indian Hills Hall of Fame coach Jeff Kelley, playing for the Warriors in 2001 and ‘02. As a sophomore she earned third-team All-American, first-team all-region and Academic All-American honors after batting .407 with 12 homers and 59 RBIs. She also had a 33-game hitting streak that season, second-longest in school history. Diehl’s freshman batting average was .337. Leaving Indian Hills with an associates degree Diehl went to Western Illinois University where she played softball and earned a bachelor of science degree. The new IHCC coach started her coaching career by serving as an assistant at Clarke while she was still in college and then spent four years as the assistant softball coach and associate housing director at Iowa Central. She also taught K-6 physical education in the Clarke school district in addition to her coaching duties since 2011. Diehl is the 7th head softball coach at Indian Hills since the program debuted on the Ottumwa campus in 1989. She succeeded Laura North, who left following the 2018 season after four very successful years in which the Warriors were 152-60, won four straight conference regular-season and postseason titles and made back-to-back national tournament trips in 2016 and ‘17. 3 KYLIEBENGTSON ASSISTANTCOACH ~ 1STSEASON Chariton, Iowa native Kylie Bengtson was hired in the summer of 2018 to be the Indian Hills softball assistant coach under first-year head coach Lindsay Diehl. Bengtson served as the softball student manager for four years at one of the top programs in the country, the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She got an opportunity to help in all aspects of that program under head coach Patrick Murphy, a former Iowa high school baseball coach. Bengtson earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Alabama, then came back to Iowa to teach physical education at St. Anthony Catholic School in Des Moines while helping coach the Dowling Catholic High School softball squad for a year. While in college she also served as an assistant coach for junior high and senior high softball at Chariton.
