WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL RELEASE #15 December 19, 2000 Stanford Women’s Volleyball Final Release CONTACT: Aimee Dombroski (650) 725-7277; [email protected] 2000 WRAPUP: The 18th-ranked Stanford women’s volleyball team finished the 2000 season with a 19-12 overall record, 10-8 Pac-10. After placing fourth in the conference 2000 SCHEDULE (19-12, 10-8 Pac-10) standings and receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, Stanford won its first 9/1 Drake+ W, 3-0 round match against No. 22 Loyola Marymount, 3-0. The Cardinal then lost a heartbreaker 9/1 Portland State+ W, 3-0 to No. 14 UC-Santa Barbara, 3-2, in Santa Barbara, Calif. Stanford finished outside the 9/3 at New Mexico+ W, 3-0 9/5 at Utah L, 2-3 top 16 nationally for the first time in the history of the program. Since joining the Pac- 9/7 Fairfield^ W, 3-1 10, the Cardinal is 57-17 (.770) in the NCAA Tournament. Stanford is one of only four 9/8 at #17 BYU^ L, 1-3 teams to have appeared in all 20 NCAA Championships (UCSB, Penn State, Pacific). 9/9 Oral Roberts^ W, 3-0 9/14 at Oregon* W, 3-2 9/15 at Oregon State* (FSNW -TD) W, 3-2 POSTSEASON RECAP: The Cardinal took a four-match winning streak into the 9/22 #5 USC* (FOX Sports Net) L, 0-3 postseason, facing Loyola Marymount in the first round. Stanford dominated the Lions, 9/23 #7 UCLA* L, 0-3 sweeping the match, 3-0. Game scores were 15-11, 15-6, 15-9. Sophomore Logan Tom 9/29 at #8 Arizona* (FOX Sports Net) L, 0-3 9/30 at Arizona State* L, 1-3 led the match with 16 kills while posting a .419 hitting percentage. Senior middle blocker 10/6 Washinton State* W, 3-1 JenniferDetmer added seven kills and seven blocks to the Cardinal effort. Stanford 10/7 Washington* W, 3-0 faced UC-Santa Barbara in second round action in the Thunderdome. The Cardinal fell 10/10 California* W, 3-0 to the Gauchos in a grueling five game match. Game scores were 15-9, 14-16, 8-15, 16- 10/14 #18 Long Beach State W, 3-0 10/19 at #8 UCLA* L, 0-3 14, 14-16. Tom set a career high with 39 kills (.339 hitting percentage) - two shy of the 10/20 at #4 USC* L, 2-3 school record. Senior setter Lindsay Kagawa notched a career high 80 assists - three 10/26 #5 Arizona* L, 0-3 shy of the school record for a single match. Senior middle blocker Jennifer Detmer led 10/27 Arizona State* W, 3-1 all blockers with 12 on the night. 10/30 Saint Mary’s W, 3-0 11/2 at Washington* W, 3-2 11/3 at Washington State* L, 1-3 TOM EARNS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS: Sophomore outside hitter Logan Tom (Salt 11/7 at #10 Pacific L, 0-3 Lake City, UT) was selected as a first-team AVCA All-American for the second 11/10 at California* W, 3-0 consecutive season. Tom led the Cardinal with 5.86 kills and 3.20 digs per game in 11/16 Oregon* W, 3-0 11/17 Oregon St.* (FOX Sports Net) W, 3-0 2000.
