This brochure was made by Czech Athletic Federation‘s Communications Department. www.atletika.cz DEAR FRIENDS OF ATHLETICS , Libor VARHANÍK President The 2016 European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam is an of the Czech Athletic Federation important milestone on the way to Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for the Czech team. I am glad that a large number of athletes has fulfi lled qualifying standards for this event, including both many promising young athletes as well as most of our experienced medal contenders. I am convinced The Netherlands with hosting city of Amsterdam will offer a week of athletics’ celebration, since Dutch people are both experienced and sports enthusiasts. Also, the organizers are bringing some events off the stadium into the streets and parks, which is an important step to draw more fans to our beloved sport. I believe our team has been preparing very thoroughly for the Championships and I have no doubts everybody will show all her or his hard work to achieve their best possible results. I wish everyone positive competition at the Olympic stadium, full of fairness and free of injuries. Also, I would like to point out, that if things do not go as expected, true athlete always fi ghts until the end. That is the spirit of every human effort. I have confi dence Amsterdam 2016 will be success for European athletics; and crowded stadium – host of Olympics back in 1928 – will see another stellar event. I hope Czech team will confi rm its role among top continental countries and upcoming Championships will give our athletes confi dence one month ahead of Rio.
