The summer holidays have just begun and her days are full of easy hopes. Then Mr. Oswald, the ugly man who lives opposite, beats up Rick, the sweet, but unstable boy next door and Skunk’s innocence begins to be drained away at a speed and in a way she cannot control. Her home, her neighbourhood, her school - all become treacherous environments where the happy certainties of childhood give way to a fear-filled doubt, and a complex, broken world fills her future. Skunk seeks solace in the last remaining place where she knows she can find it - the unspoken friendship with sweet, damaged Rick - and falls into a chaos where suddenly, joyfully, she has choice thrust back into her hands. The choice to remain in this place she was never promised, or to leave it entirely - to live or to die. -

The passion and pathos of legendary poet Dylan Thomas is told through the lives of two women. Vera Phillips and Dylan were childhood sweethearts; fast forward ten years and the two reconnect in war- time London. She‟s working as a singer whilst he‟s churning out propaganda scripts for government in aid of the war effort. The two feel the thunderbolt once more, but Thomas is now married to the adventurous Caitlin. Despite their love-rival status, the women form a surprising friendship; whilst Caitlin indulges in her own infidelities she knows her husband‟s connection with Vera is something deeper. In Vera‟s life the turmoil continues. She marries her devoted admirer William Killick, but when William is posted abroad on a dangerous assignment behind enemy lines Vera returns with her friends to Wales, where the battle between her heart and head becomes more intense. -
The Representation of Celtic Tiger Irish Masculinity in Hollywood Cinema: 1994-2008
The Representation of Celtic Tiger Irish Masculinity in Hollywood Cinema: 1994-2008 Elizabeth Carville A major thesis presented in fulfilment of the requirement for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the subject of English, Maynooth University, Department of English. August 2018 Head of Department: Prof. Colin Graham Research Supervisors: Prof. Luke Gibbons and Dr Denis Condon. Contents Introduction 1 Chapter One “Tiger Celts”: Irishness, Whiteness, and Masculinity 33 Chapter Two “Gael Gore”: Hollywood Representations of Irish Violence 86 Chapter Three Fathers, Sons, and Irish Masculinity 144 Chapter Four Sexuality and the City: The Irish Metrosexual 204 Conclusion 271 Bibliography 281 Filmography 304 SUMMARY By analysing the careers of three Irish actors in the U.S. during the Celtic Tiger period— Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers—this thesis explores the representation of Celtic Tiger Irish masculinity in Hollywood cinema. It considers the “Celtic Tiger” as an economic phenomenon that had cultural ramifications and affected the meanings attached to Irishness at a local and global level. Each chapter takes a trope or stereotype connected to the representation of Irish masculinity in cinema. Chapter One, “Tiger Celts”: Irishness, Whiteness, and Masculinity, considers the way that Irishness registers as a form of enriched whiteness in popular culture while still laying claim to a victim status that has extended from Ireland’s former colonization. It argues that as both film stars and characters, Farrell, Murphy, and Meyers avail of the cultural currency of whiteness, but remain inseparable from their ethnicity. They are seldom cast as actors but as Irish actors in Hollywood, and the contention that the Irishness of Farrell, Murphy, and Meyers lingers as a watermark that remains present regardless of the accent or ethnicity of the characters they play underlies the arguments made throughout the thesis as a whole. -

and HERRICK ENTERTAINMENT presents In Associated with GROUNDSWELL PRODUCTIONS Written and Directed by Naomi Foner Run Time: 91 minutes Rating: R Press Materials: http://tribecafilm.com/press-center/tribeca-film/films Distributor: Tribeca Film 375 Greenwich Street New York, NY 10011 TRIBECA FILM ID PR Brandon Rohwer 212-941-2038 [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 1 SYNOPSIS Best friends Lily (Dakota Fanning) and Gerry (Elizabeth Olsen), home for one last New York summer, make a pact to lose their virginity before leaving for college. But when they both fall for the same handsome artist (Boyd Holbrook) and Lily starts seeing him in secret, a lifelong friendship is tested. With Demi Moore, Richard Dreyfuss, Ellen Barkin, Peter Sarsgaard, and Clark Gregg, and featuring new music by Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis. DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT In the end, it’s always about family. We drag them along with us. Often without knowing. Good and bad. And then comes the moment when it dawns on us to take a look at the load. We can put it down, or carry it for the rest of our lives. If our parents love us, they encourage us to put it down. They own their mistakes. They wish for us to surpass them. To be free. And that sets the stage for our lives to begin. Complete with the magic of sex and adventure and risk taking. The highs and lows of our own making. The truth setting us free. This is the summer that Gerri and Lilly learn all this. -
Pathological Demand Avoidance in Ireland
Mapping Experiences of Pathological Demand Avoidance in Ireland Executive Summary 25th January 2020 Dr Alison Doyle, Caerus Education Dr Neil Kenny, Dublin City University Dr Sinead McNally, Dublin City University The Irish Research Council has funded this research under the Government of Ireland ‘New Foundations’ Scheme. Responsibility for the research (including any errors or omissions) remains with the Researchers. The views and opinions contained in this report are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of the funding body. Founded in 2014, PRISM DLR (Parents, Resources, Information and Support, Meeting needs) addresses significant gaps in supports for families within the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown catchment area, a Dublin region with a population of circa 220,000 inhabitants. In April 2017, PRISM DLR set up a subgroup called PRISM PDA Ireland to provide practical advice, support and guidance to individuals and families supporting individuals who present with autism and anxiety-based demand avoidance. The organisation was registered as a charity in 2018 and is run entirely on a voluntary basis. There is a dearth of research examining this profile within the autistic spectrum, but findings suggest uncertain health, education, and life outcomes for children, young people and adults. Consequently, PRISM DLR commissioned this investigation with the purpose of capturing and contextualising PDA in Ireland. January 2020 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Alison Doyle and Neil Kenny would like to thank the Steering
