1 Facility Conditions I feel bad for the students at our current school. We are so far behind other schools with facilities 3/3/2016 7:52 AM and choices of classes. Others have so much more to choose from.

2 Options Consolidated schools are Essential for entire county to benefit from enriched school classes and programs 3/2/2016 9:10 PM

3 MCPS Options As the middle school coach, if you combine the two middle and high schools, it will be hard for 3/1/2016 8:14 PM kids to make a small team. The county is too wide for a combine school. We live at the m/b county line and a long trip on a bus to the middle of the county is not acceptable.

4 Options I am adamantly opposed to 1 consolidated High School and Middle School. The county is too 3/1/2016 4:42 PM geographically large to bus students 3.5 - 4 hours daily to and from school. A child should not be expected to ride a bus that long each day. Would you expect your child to ride a bus to and from Richmond each day? The size and population of schools would be too large for productive, organized and safe instruction. Transportation, teacher, and administrative expenses would be greater than what we currently have. Furthermore, community identity would be negatively impacted since towns would be detached from their local schools. In summary, bigger is seldom better despite what some experts say. Thank You.

5 Miscellaneous quit spending money on surveys you could have remodeled one building so far 2/29/2016 1:14 PM

6 Urgency The new school should have been built several years ago when we had the chance. 2/29/2016 11:26 AM

7 Options Urgency I cannot believe that any responsible school board would not fight and lobby for better school 2/28/2016 10:44 PM facilities. Our end of the county has been neglected. The optimum opportunity for constructing new schools passed several years back when construction industry was looking for work and interest rates were low. Interest have already risen and will only go higher.Still the facilities need to upgraded or replaced. I do not believe the schools should be consolidated. First, the distance will increase and fuel will surely increase and those fuel costs will increase greatly. So pay now (with two high and middle schools) or pay later with longer routes and more fuel costs. Thank you for the opportunity to express my concerns on this important issue.

8 Community / Engagement Options As Mayor of Chase City, I have a great concern over what I perceive as a 2/28/2016 1:34 PM dangerous highway for school buses if students from Chase City are transported to the preferred Boydton site via Highway 92. As a frequent user of that highway, I find the predominent sections of the road are narrow and have too many tight curves. We need to be looking at enhancing this highway for the safety of all of the students who may be required to travel Hwy 92. Travel from the eastern and western ends of the county are via a nice safe 4-lane highway. However, north-south travel is much more hazardous due to the age of this road and the volume of large vehicles accessing the Mecklenburg Landfill facility. I understand there are rigid requirements for new construction for water and waste services and that may well be the deciding factor for any major expense for our schools and that alone will force a decision which will impact both Bluestone High and Middle Schools. Consolidation of the secondary schools may be a desired result but this will have a major impact on how many students can then participate in non-classroom activites since the opportunities for team play will be cut in half. Mecklenburg students of the 1950s, who were forced to merge, carried strong resentment to the loss of "their" schools and I expect this will happen again when and if the powers that be determine to consolidate secondary education on a single campus. I do not envy your decision as it is unlikely to be popular by a long shot.

9 Miscellaneous I answered(as required) but am not quilified to answers 7-8. 2/28/2016 7:55 AM

10 Options If we can renovate the existing structures cheaper than building 2 new facilities, I'd like to see us take that 2/27/2016 4:28 PM route. If it is more costly to renovate, I would want one new complex for each end. I do worry about the logistics of sharing a cafeteria/gym/etc. and would also hope the schools would be staffed independently. (ex. principal for middle/high each with assistants)

11 MCPS I am a mentor for Bluestone's Robotics Team 1413 2/27/2016 3:55 PM

12 Miscellaneous Children graduated MCPS, wife was educator with MCPS 2/27/2016 1:13 PM

13 Miscellaneous I am a retired emploee 2/27/2016 12:29 PM

14 Urgency A plan needs to be developed NOW with definite plans for future new facilities. 2/27/2016 9:35 AM

15 Facility Conditions Urgency I am a mentor for a program at Bluestone High School. The conditions at this facility 2/26/2016 6:17 PM are way below that necessary to facilitate learning at a level needed to take the county forward. I compare what I see to high performing districts and find them seriously lacking.

16 Facility Conditions Urgency Schools are very in need of improvements. 2/26/2016 2:17 PM

17 Community / Engagement I have paid taxes for multiple years. Where is the money that I have been paying for 2/26/2016 2:16 PM years now? What about the parents who don't pay taxes, and I am supporting them as well as I work hard everyday? We need to improve our facilities, but not at the taxpayers expense once again. Tax payers can't afford an increase in this county. Thank you

18 Community / Engagement New buildings will not make teachers do their jobs better. My daughter comes home 2/26/2016 1:39 PM everyday telling me about a movie they watched in class, the game they played in class or how she couldn't hear or concentrate because the kids were being so lound. Have the teachers use the class time appropriately and have the children sit and quietly pay attention. After that we can worry about building new schools.

19 Options My grandchildren already have a 40 minute bus ride to South Hill. Putting the middle school and high school 2/25/2016 2:34 PM at a centralized location would add at least 20 minutes to their ride. Please continue to have 2 middle schools and 2 high schools.

20 MCPS Schools and their staff are our future. Without proper facilities and well paid, low-turnover, highly qualified 2/25/2016 12:09 PM staff, our students will not grow and business and industry will stay away.

21 Options Having taught middle school in PA for many years, I strongly feel the benefits of 2 middle schools & 1 high 2/25/2016 9:49 AM school

22 Miscellaneous I have sent my comments directly to Mr. Nichols and look forward to meeting with him. 2/25/2016 9:36 AM

23 Options 2 new high schools and facilities along 58 with revamped high or middle schools for middle schools in the 2/24/2016 9:02 PM future.

24 Options advisory com needs to be open minded and objective in is approach, considering all stakeholders, 2/24/2016 3:43 PM

25 Miscellaneous The best way to get our students 21st century learning is with faculty, not a building. 2/24/2016 3:36 PM

6 / 12 Mecklenburg County Public SchoolsCommunity Input Study - COMMUNITY SURVEYFebruary, 2016

26 Options A COMBINED MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL WILL PROVIDE A BROADER & MORE FLEXABLE 2/24/2016 1:40 PM ENVIRONMENT. IT WILL ALLOW A TRADE SCHOOL FOR MULITPLE TRADES. IT WOULD HELP JOIN THE COUNTY INTO A SINGLE COMMUNITY WITH ALL WORKING FOR THE SAME GOAL. THE BEST SCHOOLS POSSIBLE FOR THE STUDENBTS TO EXCELL IN THE FUTURE THEY ARE BEST SUITED FOR. IT WOULD GIVE THE COUNTY A STRONGER ATTRACTION TO DRAW NEW BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY AND RETAIN THOSE WE NOW HAVE. THE COMBINED SCHOOLS WOULD ALSO PROVIDE THE FOUNDATION TO TRAIN OUR CHILDREN THE JOB SKILLS IN A CENTRAL LOCATION FOR THE CURRENT AND FUTURE JOBE IN MECKLENBURG COUNTY. ALLOWING OUR CHILDREN THE CHOICE TO STAY IN MECKLENBURG AND NOT HAVING TO MOVE TO FIND JOBS THAT PAY A LIVING WAGE. THANK YOU, BRUCE WOERNER

27 Options PV is in good location and should be improved. BHS should be moved to a more accessible location on a 2/24/2016 11:20 AM main highway.

28 Community / Engagement I have spoke at the school board meetings several times on this much needed project. 2/24/2016 10:46 AM

29 Miscellaneous I think that there should be some other tax rather than property tax. There should be a flat tax on 2/23/2016 12:59 PM every item purchased within the county. The land owners should not always bear the burden of paying for everything.Because people have worked hard and tried to have something, they should not have to pay more taxes. There should be other means to the end.

30 Community / Engagement There is very much evidence on the positive impact of facilities on student performance 2/22/2016 12:09 PM ,parental involvement, and community pride!

31 Facility Conditions The facilities in which our students have been forced to learn in everyday are completely 2/22/2016 10:27 AM inadequate and ridiculous. The fact that nothing has been done is absurd. As a voting citizen and taxpayer, I am demanding that our students and teachers are given the new facilities that they so rightly deserve. Our school board and board of supervisors have been doing nothing for the betterment of the education for the students of this county and it is time for a change!

32 Miscellaneous ERRRRARRYYYYY 2/22/2016 10:27 AM

33 Urgency As a tax payer in Mecklenburg County, I believe it is the right of our students to be able to attend NEW and 2/22/2016 10:27 AM improved schools. It is ludicrous that our school board and board of supervisors have not done what is best for our students. What is another survey going to do? Start acting, stop saying!

34 Miscellaneous Couple 'a sodiepops 2/22/2016 10:25 AM

35 Miscellaneous Needs better teachers . 2/22/2016 10:24 AM

36 Miscellaneous needs better teachers 2/22/2016 10:24 AM

37 Options I took the survey previously and would like to add a comment at this time. I believe this county would benefit 2/22/2016 8:59 AM from having a state of the art Career and Technical school. If the budget is limited, perhaps one Middle School/High School and a Career/Technical School could be considered

38 Options We need to build one middle school and one high school and everybody needs to get along and be happy ! 2/21/2016 3:35 PM

39 Miscellaneous None 2/20/2016 6:34 PM

40 Options a combined high school and middle school on each end. a later start date would allow teachers and 2/20/2016 11:37 AM students a full summer break. Labor Day to Memorial Day.

41 Miscellaneous It would have been helpful to indicate the current amount of students attending the high school and 2/19/2016 2:42 PM the middle school. I was able to dig it up on the County website, but some folks may not know how to do that and may not have any idea currently how many children are in our schools now. Also, with regards to the question about "21 Century teaching and learning", is the reference being made to that particular curriculum entitled "21st Century" or are you referring to current/future teaching/learning that would be preparing our children for the future?

42 MCPS Renovation and updating of the elementary schools other than South Hill also needs to be addressed in the 2/18/2016 9:05 PM near future.

43 Transportation / Staffing What are youdoing about the teachers pay? 2/18/2016 6:43 PM

7 / 12 Mecklenburg County Public SchoolsCommunity Input Study - COMMUNITY SURVEYFebruary, 2016

44 MCPS I am a retiree of MCPS and I served on three facilities committees and we were promised that our work would 2/18/2016 2:20 PM not collect dust on a shelf. Our conclusions from all three previous studies was that having two high schools created healthy competition, allowed more students to participate in sports, travel time to and from school reduced, and school pride of being a Baron or a Dragon would remain throughout adulthood. Having been at BHS for 20 years as a member of the faculty and having graduated from BHS, I feel students are receiving a terrific education from their teachers. However, the few who attend school who could care less about receiving an education tend to created discipline problems. I do not feel that putting so many students in one high school creates a safe, learning environment. Students coming from Townsville, NC and Chase City will not have the double lane highways to travel to school if one new high school is built in Boydton. I do not feel that my opinion will make a difference because of previous conversations that I have had with the present School Board chairman and Vice-chair. Their minds are already made up as to the future of our school system. Therefore, I am expecting one high school, located in Boydton at the former prison, named Mecklenburg County High School. I would actually put a bet on this opinion.

45 Facility Conditions Please get our students new school....they are badly needed. 2/17/2016 6:50 PM

46 MCPS Options As a former "Educational Facilities Planner", teacher, principal, Director of School 2/17/2016 4:31 PM Maintenance/Construction, Assistant Superintendent, "founding member" of the CEFPI ( Chapter), and with my Ph.D. dissertation titled: "A Study of the Architecture and Curriculum of Virginia High Schools" - I feel fairly confident in stating that the current state of the facilities that house our secondary programs (curricular, co-curricular, and extra- curricular) are in dire need of replacing. Although many would state that consolidation of both high schools and middle schools would create inequities in opportunities for sports, and/or "travel time" via school bus... I firmly believe that these issues can be overcome easily through proper transportation routing planning, the addition of more junior varsity sports and "other sports" (lacrosse, cross country, , etc.) Consolidation will provide a means to providing more instructional options, lower operational costs, and reduced administrative costs at the building level. Land is readily available, construction costs are still relatively low, and the time is right to move forward. Yes, there will be consternation with regard to the blending of the "east" and "west". Developing a new Mecklenburg High/Middle School will cause those who (when cut) bleed "green & white" or "blue & gold" a feeling of loss... but there are ways to keep the "heritage" of each school "alive" not unlike what has been put in place when Boydton, Clarksville, Chase City, and South Hill consolidated their former high schools..... and when East Side High School and West Side High School were "integrated" into the existing high schools. The only constant in our universe is "CHANGE"... our students are resilient and in need of a 21st solution to the globalization of education and learning. Let's move forward to begin this journey... As stated earlier, children are resilient and adaptable to change.... some "grown-ups" are not as accepting to change.

47 Options Transportation / Staffing New schools would be great if the state could provide assistance. Raises for 2/17/2016 11:50 AM the employees have to be considered also.

48 Options I would actually prefer a newly constructed combine middle/high school combined facility on each side of 2/16/2016 5:54 PM the county using the existing high school sites for each location.

49 Miscellaneous The Steering Committee should be 7-10 members max. 2/16/2016 8:27 AM

50 Miscellaneous Am retired teacher whose own children went to BHS 2/15/2016 5:05 PM

51 Educational / Pedagogy Transportation / Staffing When looking at new facilities, we need to consider the ability 2/15/2016 4:25 PM for our communities to handle emergency situations. Are our emergency services and hospitals equipped to handle situations of mass scale if we combine our schools into one complex. More students in one facility increase the likelihood of more discipline issues and create scheduling problems. The size of our county and the distances that would be required for transportation should also be considered when constructing new facilities.

52 Urgency something needs to be done soon before something serious happens 2/15/2016 3:10 PM

53 Facility Conditions Urgency Heating and water issues are in serious need of improvement 2/15/2016 2:38 PM

54 Community / Engagement Thank you for taking the time to obtain community input. For the first time, in years, I 2/15/2016 1:51 PM feel that someone will seriously take this input into consideration, rather than just giving lip service.

55 Miscellaneous Urgency As a parent of a freshman at PVSH, I believe that all this is too little too late for us. He 2/14/2016 3:54 PM was moved to SHE for 1 year following the ridiculous decision to close Buckhorn. Now with over half of his freshman year complete, anything built at this point would not benefit him at all. And as a 1993 graduate of PVSH, I was told that our class would be one of the last classes to gradute from the 2 school high school system. The studies were done, paid for and a combined high school was recommended then. I've been a homeowner/tax payer for over 20 years and am disgusted that my child has been in these old, crumbling buildings. I am already paying for a tax increase with no return on that. This county really needs to get itself out of the 1950s and join this century.

56 Options I will support, in any way I can, the schools in our county IF they keep it to two separate high schools. 2/13/2016 8:36 PM Mecklenburg County is too large for one high school!! It may be better financially for one but not better for the kids, parents, and sports!

8 / 12 Mecklenburg County Public SchoolsCommunity Input Study - COMMUNITY SURVEYFebruary, 2016

57 Educational / Pedagogy Options One consolidated middle school and high school cuts in half the opportunities 2/13/2016 8:33 AM for students. A smaller school is more student centered.

58 Options Transportation / Staffing I will have a middle school child next year and as a parent I DO NOT want to 2/12/2016 1:11 PM see the schools combined and moved. I believe it will be too far for some of these students to travel each morning and evening. Either renovate or build in the same area(close as possible). Combining schools only means more children in the same place which means more behavior issues. On top of that the schools will be further away from the parents.

59 Educational / Pedagogy Need appropriate number of students to optimize instruction 2/12/2016 12:46 PM

60 Urgency Take action now. 2/12/2016 9:47 AM

61 Options Transportation / Staffing Looking at cost as a factor a combined middle school and high school maybe a 2/12/2016 9:08 AM great way to save money, but looking at the other issues such as travel times from the farthest parts of the county, the cost to build the schools versus updating the current schools, loss of jobs, etc. A question I have is why were there two high schools built in the first place?

62 Educational / Pedagogy Options Transportation / Staffing I believe a combined middle/ high school was 2/12/2016 8:16 AM hinder our growth academically in our county. It would also created longer travel time for some students on busses as well as eliminate some students from participating in after school activities.

63 Miscellaneous N/A 2/11/2016 9:02 PM

64 Facility Conditions I think we need to improve the facilities we have. I dont think we maintained our facilities very 2/11/2016 8:16 PM well during the last administration because the agenda was new schools. I am not sure this county can afford new schools at this point.

65 Facility Conditions The current status of Park View middle school has me very concerned with the safety of my 2/11/2016 7:32 PM child who will attend or should attend starting in fall 2016. It is overwhelming how aid that ho View middle school has me very concerned with the safety of my child who will attend or should attend starting in fall 2016. It is overwhelming how out dated this facility is with all of the technology that is available in them school division now. It is very hard to bring new people into Mecklenburg County with the school system in the shape that it is and not just The administrative challenges it is also the and sightly schools. The only valid options for a child for middle school is to attend a Christian-based school with non-certified teachers or to drive one hour of 85 or down 58 to schools that are even older than this middle school. This is a major challenge for anyon

66 MCPS This does not address all of Mecklenburg County's building needs. A couple of their elementary schools 2/11/2016 11:06 AM buildings need to be replaced.

67 Miscellaneous none 2/10/2016 10:41 PM

68 Community / Engagement Glad the new Board is asking for community support. 2/10/2016 11:10 AM

69 Transportation / Staffing I DO NOT WANT TO SEE KIDS HAVE TO RIDE TO FAR TO SCHOOL 2/10/2016 9:46 AM

70 Community / Engagement Educational / Pedagogy Quality education is not strictly about the quantity of 2/10/2016 9:26 AM students in a building or the structure itself. How an institution effectively and efficiently uses the resources provided plays a vital role in whether they provide for a quality education. As we move into the future, interaction with the communities will be vital for our students; therefore, location will be important as we look at other resources available.

71 Facility Conditions I went to both Bluestone Middle and high schools and agree that the teachers need better 2/10/2016 9:21 AM equipment to work with, better restroom facilities with doors, I am sure the classrooms are the same as when I went to school about 30 years ago.

72 MCPS Improving the overall viability of Mecklenburg County starts with our schools and the education received 2/10/2016 8:45 AM there. Only when those two components are appropriately addressed will Mecklenburg County ever come close to realizing its full potential.

73 Facility Conditions Urgency The middle schools are in GREAT need of replacing! 2/9/2016 1:59 PM

74 Facility Conditions Options middle schools are insecure and outdated, county is too large (read transportation 2/9/2016 1:43 PM issues) for one large complex, large geograghic counties have kept highschools close to the same size and added one as population numbers increased to an area where the need is.

9 / 12 Mecklenburg County Public SchoolsCommunity Input Study - COMMUNITY SURVEYFebruary, 2016

75 Facility Conditions Urgency There continue to be studies done with no resolution and the middles schools are 2/9/2016 10:39 AM ridiculous and if there situation was for a private school it would have been resolved its not fair the education of the children which is really at stake and the old generations that really have no immediate children effected should not continually have all the say becaus they have ruled the delayed thinkings in the county for so long. Its an entirely new century and the school and students continue to suffer each year with patch work and more request. ITs either a decision to go forward or talk the talk every year or several years and new superintendent and new principals and same old schools and learning conditions for the students. What will it take the school buildings actually falling down onto our babies or a natural disaster to make the county actually act upon the decision to build new schools. Middle school first and then High school or ensure that the buildings are at least in the century in which we currently reside. There is always the issue with the funding however when the needs arise for funding for other things it happens. Allow the actions to start and the funding will come. We can only build one school at a time and go from there. Education is key in ensuring that ALL children are allowed equal opportunity to learn in a environment that is productive - positive - and fair for everyone. Its not rocket science and should not continually a debate. Its a given fact and should be handle with utmost importance in accordance to what the southern county needs to ensure we are not continually stuck with under educated children and not being so selfish and just thinking about our own self. Unity among the towns and the adults will be a beginning and hard work to rally the funding should be the MAIN FOCUS FOR THE SCHOOLS and everyone involved.

76 Options Please do not simpley turn the high schools into middle schools. The high schools are in terrible condition. 2/7/2016 5:46 PM Why house any student in those pitiful buildings and then have to constantly repair them? Let us taxpayers just go for all new to start with. Thank you.

77 Options Question 10: Demolish current high schools and build new middle schools on that property. 2/5/2016 10:15 AM

78 Miscellaneous lack sufficient information to form strong opinions at this time 2/4/2016 10:31 PM

79 MCPS Nothing was mentioned about upgrades to the Elementary schools. They should be included in the survey as 2/3/2016 9:43 PM they are in desperate need of upgrades.

80 Miscellaneous None 2/3/2016 4:10 PM

81 Facility Conditions Options The schools need to be replaced. 2/3/2016 1:45 PM

82 Community / Engagement Thank you for the opportunity to weigh in. Look forward to seeing the results of this 2/3/2016 9:58 AM survey.

83 Transportation / Staffing Urgency I have custody of my grandchildren, as such I am responsible for their 2/1/2016 9:08 AM education. 2 are in HS and 1 is in Elemetery School. So what is done now, which should have been done long before now, will only help the youngest get a better education. However, we need to attract, hire and retain good teachers. Far too many left during the last administration. This could have a significant impact on the HS students.

84 Community / Engagement Very interested and would like to be kept informed. 2/1/2016 12:10 AM

85 Options I prefer 2 new High/middle School Complexes! 1/30/2016 9:28 PM

86 Miscellaneous Transportation / Staffing Take care of the staff financially first. ALL staff. Most children do not live 1/30/2016 4:16 PM in upscale new homes, some still don't have computers or Internet. Instead of focusing on the outside structure of the education, focus on the inside. Please. Let the teachers teach, the old school way, implementing modern technology. The children do not retain half the information presented to them, because they are to busy pasting notes, and using calculators.

87 Options Bluestone Middle and High School need to be in Bodyton so they can be on water and sewer fire protection. 1/30/2016 2:22 PM Park View Middle up to the high school So they can have sewer and pump to South Hill,Va.

88 Urgency The school devision has seamingly taken a drastic turn for the worse. And unless major changes are 1/30/2016 1:29 PM inacted to reverse course (particularly the completely unqualified school board) I plan to move out of Mecklenburg Co. To avoid the disastrous education system.

89 Facility Conditions Urgency Bottom Line: Our facilities (buildings) are wholly inadequate and show the lack of 1/30/2016 12:46 PM priority given to education in our county.

90 Community / Engagement My child will start kindergarten in august, so whatgets done with the schools is important 1/30/2016 12:36 PM to me.

91 Community / Engagement Options As a former student of Mecklenburg county I have been very pleased with the 1/30/2016 12:07 PM new superintendent of schools. I can tell that he really cares about the students and the facility. However, if renovations of the school cannot be done, I do believe it best to have two separate but new buildings for each high school and middle school.

92 Transportation / Staffing Teachers need a raise 1/30/2016 11:47 AM

93 Facility Conditions The school facilities are not good. But the school system overall is in my opinion. 1/30/2016 10:57 AM

10 / 12 Mecklenburg County Public SchoolsCommunity Input Study - COMMUNITY SURVEYFebruary, 2016

94 Options I do not agree that Bluestone High or Middle School should remain n Skipwith. Any new school should be 1/30/2016 10:43 AM on a better, safer road such as 85, centrally located near/in Boydton.

95 Educational / Pedagogy Options need to do what's best for the kids to get a great education 1/30/2016 10:33 AM

96 Options i just kills me to watch good money being thrown into the current middle schools when study after study 1/30/2016 9:48 AM says to replace them. whether you move them to the old high schools and build new high schools, to keep spending on falling down buildings is foolish.

97 Miscellaneous Appreciate the opportunity to give my opinion but you should check your survey before publishing. 1/30/2016 9:17 AM Questions 9 & 10 are the same question. What does this say about us that we can't simply double check ourselves to assure no mistakes. Shame on you. Sets a poor example of our educational system. Also, I feel a question on do you think our county will benefit from improved schools to attract more business.

98 Options Please also consider having a combined middle school/high school complex at each end of our county. 1/30/2016 7:07 AM

99 Community / Engagement School buildings need to be in a town for united local support, especially the high 1/30/2016 2:29 AM schools

100 Transportation / Staffing I do not want students on a bus for long periods of time and jobs would be taken away 1/29/2016 11:10 PM from our county if one school complex was developed!

101 Miscellaneous Chexk out prince edward county facilities 1/29/2016 10:43 PM

102 Options I do not believe consolidating schools is in the best interest of our children I believe it will take opportunities 1/29/2016 9:38 PM away ex sports only 20 children will get the chance to play as opposed to 40 between the two schools same for other academic teams.

103 Options As a Professional Engineer and parent of two students in MCPS, I would like to see new PV middle and PV 1/29/2016 9:21 PM high schools at their current location. I think the west end schools would be better served at new location possibly along rt 15 or rt 92. I do not support a consolidated school for middle or high nor do I see a cost benefit in refurbishing the existing buildings.

104 Facility Conditions Urgency I feel that every year you delay improvements, the cost goes up. It's time to put our 1/29/2016 8:57 PM students in a safer, cleaner environment.

105 Educational / Pedagogy Options I do not know what the answer is here but the facilities need to remain separate 1/29/2016 8:53 PM facilities! Obviously building new buildings would be optimal but may not be managble. In any case, updating the facilities at the middle school and high school levels are a MUST and will definitely improve the quality of the education that MCPS provides our children! I am whole heatedly against a central location as these children and their parents as well as the staff already spend too many hours in a bus or car and this would be made much worse by moving to a central location for many. Also, for most kids sports is an avenue to keep them in school and increasing the size of the schools will not only limit the number who can participate but it will also place us in a higher division resulting in more time spent in traveling to away games.

106 Educational / Pedagogy I taught at Bluestone High School for 20 years of my 33 year teaching career. I believe that 1/29/2016 8:34 PM smaller schools allow for better interpersonal relationships and greater opportunities for participation.

107 Facility Conditions The condition of the Park View Middle and High Schools are deplorable. The building of new 1/29/2016 8:13 PM schools in the County has been discussed for at least fifteen or more year with no results. No new industry that will bring new jobs to the area is willing to bring their executives and their families into a locality that have schools that are in the condition that these school buildings are in.

108 Facility Conditions I believe that the building itself does not affect instruction, however when the buildings do not 1/29/2016 7:33 PM have adequate heating systems I do believe that affects instruction.

109 Options # 9 & 10 put high & middle new schools Park View location ; Bluestone high & middlest new location 1/29/2016 7:29 PM Boydton or Clarksville not out in middle of nowhere we need new facilities now is time with bond rates & additioal taxes from MICROSOFT

110 Community / Engagement public. town hall meetings are necessary to gather input and public opinion 1/29/2016 7:25 PM

111 Facility Conditions Having little or no heat in some classrooms/portables is unacceptable!! 1/29/2016 6:10 PM

112 Urgency It is high time that the Board of Supervisors put the needs of education first! As a citizen I am appalled at 1/29/2016 6:00 PM the way the board has acted in the past by paying for prisons and garbage before the needs of students who happen to be their future workforce. It us sad that my representative in District 3 makes decisions about schools based on the fact that his wife and children attend and teach at public school and lives in NC.

113 Options One option is to build two new high schools. But Bluestone needs to be built where there is municipal water 1/29/2016 5:01 PM and sewer. To build out in the sticks again is crazy.

114 Urgency We need to move forward on this 1/29/2016 4:56 PM

11 / 12 Mecklenburg County Public SchoolsCommunity Input Study - COMMUNITY SURVEYFebruary, 2016

115 Facility Conditions I believe the middle schools need more space and the high schools are adequate but need 1/29/2016 4:51 PM major updates. Our county is very large and it ould make more money sense to centrally locate a joint middle and high school.

116 Urgency Please do not continue to delay making a decision and do seriously consider the consequences of your 1/29/2016 4:51 PM actions. Mecklenburg can never hope to entice businesses that will offer jobs to our citizens if we can't properly educate our children to make them desirable workers.

117 Options I think you should consider a Bluestone Middle/High Complex on this end and the same on the Park View 1/29/2016 4:18 PM End. Look at the Goochland Complex. Half of the building is middle and the other half is high with shared sport, elective, and CareerTech

118 Options The schools should NOT be combined! 1/29/2016 4:05 PM

119 Options We badly need a new central high school middle school comples in the Boydton area, located close to US 1/29/2016 3:19 PM 58,

120 Options updated facilities are needed, a centeralized high school looks good on paper but is not practical for a large 1/29/2016 2:28 PM locality (geographically) like Mecklenburg.

121 Options I do not know my ideal size for secondary schools but I believe that the we would benefit from combining 1/29/2016 12:09 PM the schools to one complex over time

122 Options I feel questions 9 and 10 do not provide all of the appropriate options for the future of the school buildings. 1/29/2016 12:04 PM Specifically, I believe Park View High School can be renovated and expanded at its current site, but that Bluestone HS needs to be moved to a better location. Thus, that school will be new. Also as I believe that the number of students at the middle school level should be less than at HS. I believe the two current middle schools and the current Bluestone HS or instead of BSHS the former Buckhorn elementary school should be renovated to become middle school facilities.

123 Urgency they do need new schools very bad. i have a child in 4th grade, 9th grade , 10th grade... I think YES... 1/29/2016 11:49 AM something needs to be done ASAP!!!! but we have been talking about it FOREVER... Note everyone is going to be happy. Whatever decision is made will not please everyone. i think between the boards they need to decided something ASAP and MOVE forward now and quit talking about it. i dont like being so straight forward but thats what needs to happen, not every parent will be happy. not everyboard member will be happy... not every teacher will be either... but either DO SOMETHING or Dont.... and if Dont then ok.... it is no need to keep talking about it.
