BOHO THEATRE BRINGS JEZ BUTTERWORTH’S HAUNTING NEW PLAY “THE RIVER” TO

CHICAGO (April 10, 2019) – BoHo Theatre continues its 2019 season with THE RIVER, a haunting and complex new play by playwright Jez Butterworth, directed by Jerrell L. Henderson. THE RIVER was called “a magnetically eerie, luminously beautiful psychodrama” by TIME OUT LONDON.

THE PLAY On a moonless night in August when the sea trout are ready to run, a man brings his new girlfriend to the remote family cabin where he has come for fly-fishing since he was a boy. But she's not the only woman he has brought here—or indeed the last. Part thriller, part ghost story, this haunting play is a poignant tale of love, loss, and cycles of pain that we can’t find a way to break out of.

“The characters in THE RIVER wrestle with the question of whether achieving or attaining love, actual love, is even possible,” remarks Henderson. “The play’s themes are eternal, universal, subtly epic, and devilishly playful. I can’t wait to share this play with our community!”

Jerrell L. Henderson’s recent directing credits include THE DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS (Eclipse Theatre), SALT PEPPER KETCHUP (Passage Theatre and InterAct Theatre), RED SUMMER: A NEW AMERICAN PLAY WITH MUSIC and ANDY WHITE (IMPAACT Theatre & Fleetwood-Jordain Theatre), and THE FREAKS OF MERCY (: The Saturday Series). Upcoming productions include UNTITLED with Inis Nua Theatre and SOMETHING LIKE A WAR with 11th Hour Theatre. As an assistant director, Henderson has worked with , The , Steppenwolf Theatre, and Lookingglass Theatre. As an educator, he has taught and directed at several institutions including Illinois State University, Northwestern University, The University of the Arts, and Actor’s Training Center. He received a BA in Theatre Arts from The Pennsylvania State University, an MFA in Directing from Northwestern University, is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab, and a member of Victory Gardens Directors Inclusion Initiative, 2017-2018.

Joe Lino (Man) In Chicago he has worked with Steppenwolf, Goodman, Victory Gardens, Teatro Vista, Drury Lane, The New Colony, The Cuckoos Theater Project, The Agency Theatre Collective, and Interrobang Theatre Project, where he is an ensemble member. His regional credits include DRACULA, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, and THAT HIGH LONESOME SOUND with Actors Theatre of Louisville. He has also performed Off-Broadway at the BAM Harvey Theatre in Charles Mee’s world premiere of THE GLORY OF THE WORLD. He is a proud alumni of Ball State University where he received a BFA in Acting.

Christina Gorman (Woman) Christina was last appeared with BoHo in last season's CYRANO. She has also had the pleasure of working such companies as Steppenwolf Theatre Co., , Griffin Theatre, Stage Left, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, City Lit, and Shattered Globe Theatre, where she is an ensemble member, among others. She also teaches at Acting Studio Chicago and is represented by Actors Talent Group.

Chelsee Carter (Other Woman) Originally from Oregon, Chelsee is a graduate from Purdue University’s MFA in acting program. Recent productions include Maria in Midsommer Flight’s production of TWELFTH NIGHT, Louka in City Lit’s ARMS AND THE MAN, Olivia in Theatre Evolve’s production of TWELFTH NIGHT, and Ladvenu in Poetic Forum Collective’s SAINT JOAN. Chelsee is so excited to work with this amazing cast and crew!
