Scouting the Friars The Friars enter the Hockey East Championship game with a 12-6-1 overall record and 10-6-1 mark in Hockey East. The Friars defeated the no. 4 seeded in the Hockey East Semifinal game in , 1-0, on March 3 at . Both teams skated through the entire 60 minutes of regulation scoreless, with the Black Bears outshooting the Friars by a 31-22 margin over the first three periods. Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario) scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Friars, 2:10 into extra time. Giana Savas- tano (Mapleville, R.I.) tipped the puck to Barnett who put it past Porter. Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) earned the secondary assist on the goal. Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) stopped all 33 shots faced in net, improv- ing her save percentage to .930 and goals against average to 1.89.

Hjalmarsson leads the charge offensively for the Friars with 17 points (five goals, twelve assists). Becker and Peterson are tied for second with 14 points apiece. Becker has three goals and 11 assists, while Peterson, who leads the team in goals, has seven goals and seven assists. 18 different Friars have points on the season and 13 players have recorded at least one goal. Providence boasts a 22.2% power play percentage, ranking third in the nation. Abstreiter has made 19 starts in net. Her .930 save percentage ranks sixth in the nation as does her goals against average (1.89). The netminder has made 446 total saves and has 3 shutouts.

Regular Season Vs. Northeastern The Friars and the Huskies met three times this season. Northeastern claimed victory in all three games, de- feating Providence 4-0 in a road matchup (Jan. 12) and sweeping the Friars in a weekend series, 4-1 (Jan. 22) and 5-0 (Jan. 23). Freshman Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) put up the lone goal of the season against the Huskies, assisted by Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) and Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.). PROVIDENCE COLLEGE 2020-21 WOMEN’S HOCKEY GAME NOTES Becker and Tyo Named To Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team Freshmen defenders Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) of the Providence Col- lege women’s hockey team have been named to the Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team, as an- nounced by the league on Feb. 26. Becker has 11 points on two goals and nine assists so far in her rookie campaign. She is second on the team in assists and is tied for second in most points. Two of her assists have come as game-winners, with three points coming on the power play this year. Becker is tied for first in assists among all Hockey East Rookies. In total, she’s posted 39 shots and is +2. Tyo has nine points on three goals and six assists. She is third on the team in points and fourth on the team in assists. Tyo scored the game winning goal against Merrimack on Jan. 17 and two of her assists have also served as game winners. She is tied for first in power play points among all Hockey East rookies (5). The rookie defenseman has 41 recorded shots and is +3 on the season.

Hockey East Award Winners Brooke Becker was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month for February, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, March 2. Becker had five assists and one goal for six points in the month of February, doing so in three fewer games than anyone else in Hockey East. The freshman defender’s six points were the most of any rookie blueliner in the nation. She recorded two multi-point games in February, and helped the lead Friars in a victory over Boston University in the Hockey East Quarterfinals with one goal and two assists.

Scouting the Huskies No. 1 Northeastern University enters Saturday night’s Championship game off the heels of a 19-game unbeat- en streak and carries a season record of 19-1-1 overall and 17-1-1 in the Hockey East. The Huskies defeated UCo- nn on Wednesday, March 3 in the Hockey East Semifinal round, 2-1. Chloe Aurard scored the game-winning goal shorthanded at the 15:22 minute mark of the third period, breaking the team out of a 1-1 tie. This will be the team’s fourth match-up of the 2020-21 season, with Northeastern holding a 3-0 record over the Friars. As a team, the Huskies average 4.24 goals per game and allow less than one (0.67). Converting on 21.1% of power plays and killing off 96.6% of penalties, the Huskies lead NCAA in penalty kill percentage. The team also leads NCAA in wins, short-handed goals and goals.

Who to Watch Alina Mueller leads not only the Huskies offensively, but leads the NCAA in points (35) and assists (24). Addi- tionally, she leads the nation in power play points scored (11) and has +32 on the season. Alina Mueller was named Hockey East Co-Player of the Year alongside teammate . Frankel, a senior netminder, leads the nation in save percentage (.972) and goals against average (.63). She also leads the NCAA in wins (17) alongside nine shutouts, two of which have been against the Friars. Other top scorers for the Huskies include Chloé Aurard and Skylar Fontaine, both of whom have over twenty points on the season (25 and 23, respec- tively). Mueller, Aurard and Fontaine are the top three point scorers in the league, in that order.

He led the team to a 24-11-2 record, helping the Friars to tie the program-high for wins in a season. Kelly led Providence to the Hockey East Semifinals for the first time since 2013 and coached three Friars to Hockey East honors at the conclusion of the season. In 2019-20, Kelly led the team to the Hockey East Quarterfinals with a 18-14- 4 overall record as the No. 3 seed. He coached two Friars to Hockey East honors as Whitney Dove was named a Hockey East All-Star Second Team selection and freshman Lauren DeBlois was named to the Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team. Prior to Providence, Kelly served as a Head Scout for USA Hockey and the Women’s National Team. His primary responsibility was to oversee and maintain the player pools for the U-18 and U-22 squads, in addition to the Women’s National Team. During his time with USA Hockey, Kelly won a total of eleven gold medals. He recently captured a gold medal with the Women’s National Team at the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang. Additionally, he helped the U18 team win four-consecutive gold medals (2015-2018). This marked the first time any U18 team won four World Championships in a row. With USA Hockey, Kelly also was directly responsible for player selection to various USA Hockey camps and teams. Additionally, he helped foster player development and the implementation of long-term strategy. Before USA Hockey, Kelly served as an assistant women’s ice hockey coach at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. During his tenure there, Kelly helped guide the Golden Knights to a National Championship in 2014. Clarkson qualified for the ECAC playoffs each of the six years that Kelly was on the bench and claimed three league titles during that span. The Golden Knights reached the NCAA Tournament three times (2010, 2013 and 2014). Kelly recruited and coached several high-profile players at Clarkson, including one Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Winner, 10 Patty Kazmaier nominees and two ECAC players of the year. In addition to his coaching experience at Clarkson, Kelly also spent a season coaching at Quinnipiac University (2007- 08) and his alma mater, Wayne State University (2006-07). A 2007 graduate of Wayne State, Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree in media arts and studies. As a goaltender for the Warriors, Kelly earned All- Second Team honors in his senior season. He served as a captain and was named the CHA/Easton Three Star Award recipient in that season as well. Other2accolades from his playing career include the CHA All-Academic Team and the 2004 CHA All-Tournament Team.
