Población y estructura de Galicia a lo largo del Camino Francés José Leira López Universidade de A Coruña INTRODUCCIÓN En el Códice Calixtino nos encontramos cómo Aymeric Picaud nos narra -de un modo poco científico y henchido de estereotipos- cómo estaba compuesta la sociedad europea y española que recorrían los peregrinos que transitaban el Camino de Santiago. Y así, nos dice que unas tierras eran ricas en miel y otras en cereales, que los navarros eran bebedores y los gallegos litigantes. En este trabajo pretendemos mostrar cómo está com puesta la población y la estructura socioeconómica que se encuentra a lo largo del llamdo Camiño Francés en su andadura gallega. O sea, en el trayecto que va desde Pedrafita do Cebreiro hasta Santiago de Compostela. Diremos también que este es un modo -quizás peculiar- de estudiar Galicia y que deseamos que cumpla la labor de ser una herramienta que permita una mayor profundización en el esclarecimiento y en el análisis de nuestra realidad socio económica. Queremos también decir que realizar este estudio nos supuso diver sas tareas que lo hacían en sí más apasionante, puesto que nos íbamos encontrando con diversos fenómenos y algunas dualidades, tales como: 126 JOSÉ LEIRA LÓPEZ sociedad tradicional versus sociedad industrial avanzada; suciedad rural versus urbana; variables demográficas e indicadores de atraso o moderni zación; sectores productivos y otro tipo de actividades; flujos migratorios; una organización social en transformación; niveles de estudio; cabeceras de comarca y centralidad urbana; nivel asociativo; normas, costumbres, valores y tradiciones; percepción de los espacios donde se habita; materias primas; población envejecida y dispersa; la economía simbiótica y el des pegue económico; la economía de subsistencia articulada en una red de ferias y mercados comarcales; la dificultad de las comunicaciones; las pa rroquias como núcleos; la progresiva implantación de estilos de vida urba nos; y, en definitiva, la marginalidad y la dependencia como determinantes básicos de nuestra estructura socioeconómica.

Universidad de Santiago de Compostela RESUMEN: El conjunto de normas y de iniciativas políticas y legislativas desarrolladas en Galicia durante los últimos veinte años, encaminadas a impulsar planes de distinta naturaleza para acome- ter una progresiva estructuración y dinamización de su territorio, han dado escasos resultados. De igual modo, las estrategias innovadoras de ordenación y cooperación territorial implantadas a es- cala regional se han limitado a la creación de Mancomunidades voluntarias de municipios, de esca- so calado competencial, y a la puesta en marcha de algunos Consorcios locales, renunciando, por el momento, al desarrollo y constitución de nuevas entidades comarcales y de Áreas Metropolitanas con personalidad jurídica propia y plena capacidad de gestión administrativa. En este contexto, el presente trabajo aborda, desde una perspectiva crítica, las distintas normativas aprobadas, el im- pacto real generado por el Plan de Desarrollo Comarcal, la articulación de Áreas Funcionales y las principales fórmulas de cooperación territorial que se están llevando a cabo en la Comunidad Autó- noma de Galicia, así como, las principales características que presenta el sistema urbano policén- trico gallego, plasmado en las recientes Directrices de Ordenación del Territorio aprobadas a fi nales del año 2008. Triacastela - Sarria
El Camino Triacastela - Sarria Pilgrims have two options today, signposted at the trail’s departure from Triacastela. The shorter one proceeds from the detour to the right, crosses the valley of San Xil, and passes through traditional villages such as A Balsa, Montán, Calvor and San Mamede do Camiño. There some steep stretches during this walk. The other alternative on the leftward fork is a bit longer. It heads towards Samos, site of a renowned monastery erected in the 6th century, and one of the most important of its kind in Galicia. It is both a pilgrim hostel and a tourist site with grounds open to the general public Monday to Saturday from 10 to 12:30 and 16:30 to 18:30. Sunday and holiday hours are 12:45 to 13:30 and 16:30 to 18:30. You can enjoy the monastery’s beautiful, spacious cloisters, its library, medieval pharmacy, and vestry. This place is also full of stories and curiosities. One of the cloisters has a fountain with four mermaids showing their breasts, which was the cause for much uproar. There is also a thornless bramble, said to be the one that hid its thorns when Saint Benedict fell over it to avoid prickling him. The vaults also feature a key on the ceiling with an inscription reading: “What are you looking at, fool”. Some people claim that in the murals decorating the large cloister they see faces of celebrities, such as Sofia Loren in the body of a nun or Sara Montiel (a Spanish actress) as an angel, perhaps because the painter, from Coruña, also did billboards.

Desde La Cruz de O Incio hay que tomar la carretera, de la red secun- daria LU-642, que une la LU-546 en Oural (Sarria) con Ferrería de O Incio. Después de pasar Godral, en el kiló- metro 13 de la LU-642, encontramos Cristina Martí Pascual del Pobil un cruce y cogemos a mano derecha discurriendo ya por la carretera LU- 641.
