September 3, 2010 Presenter “What do the Toubabs Want? Conversations with ‘Businessmen,’ ‘Bumsters,’ and Other Young Male and Female Gambians about Sex Tourism in The Gambia.” The session took place at Florida International University, during the AADS & GSS Graduate Students Colloquium.

September 8-11, 2010 Presenter “What do the Toubabs Want? Conversations with ‘Businessmen,’ ‘Bumsters,’ and Other Young Male and Female Gambians about Sex Tourism in The Gambia.”- The papare was presented during the session “‘The Revelation,’ Re-Affirmation, and Re-Invention of Self through the ‘Discovery,’ Consumption, and Experiencing of Others: Globalization and Interactions in Senegambian Tourism Formations.” The session took place at the International Conference entitled “Tourism and Seductions of Difference,” organized at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in , .

EMPLOYMENT

2010 – Current: Adjunct Professor, Florida International University Miami, FL Africa & African Diaspora Studies Program (AADS). Developed and taught the courses AFA 3353 “Gender and Sexualities in Sub-Saharan Africa,” AFA 3339 “Women and Human Rights in Sub-Saharan Africa,” and WOL 1170 “Wolof Language and ,” (Study Abroad Program “Senegal & The Gambia Traditions, Globalization, and Tourism in West Africa” since summer 2010).

2006 – Current Special Projects Coordinator 1, Broward Libraries, Part Time. Responsible for coordinating all activities related to the after school program held at the Hollywood Branch Library. Assist in improving student’s literacy skills, which in turn will help enhance their overall academic performance.

2005 – 2006 Program Director, YWCA of Greater Miami. Oversaw the Promotion and Prevention program in the YW’s four Early Childcare centers. Coordinated trainings for staff and parents, managed program budget, developed partnerships with other agency to provide services, develop and utilize tools to monitor program performance and evaluation, executed contracts with consultants, prepared grants to improve programming and seek more funding, and prepared reports on a timely manner.

2002-2004 Social Studies Teacher, Broward County Public Schools. Nova High School: Taught 10th and 12th grade American Government/Economics, and World History Parkway Middle School: Taught 7th and 8th grade in the subject areas of World Geography and U.S. History.

2001-2002 Program Specialist, Urban League of Broward County. Ran a gender-based(girls ages 10-14) teen pregnancy prevention and youth empowerment program called Project A.B.L.E. Managed program budget, collected materials to monitor program performance and evaluation, and submitted reports on a timely manner.
