Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili from Georgia is candidate for the post of ECU President. Mr. Ion Serban Dobronauteanu from Romania is candidate for the post ECU Deputy President. Mr. Finnbjørn Vang from Faroe Islands is candidate for the post of ECU Vice President. Mr. Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou from Greece is candidate for the post of ECU General Secretary. Mr. Martin Huba from Slovakia is candidate for the post of ECU Treasurer. Ms Fiona Steil-Antoni from Luxembourg is the Campaign Press officer. Zurab Azmaiparashvili Candidate for ECU President Born on 16th March 1960 in Tbilisi, father of two daughters and one son, grandfather of 6 children Grandmaster since 1988 (Peak rating: 2702 in 2003) European Champion in 2003 and bronze medallist in 2001 Bronze Medallist in the European team championship in 2003 5-times participant of the World Championship final stages, held by FIDE (1997, 1999-2001, 2004) Participant in the Chess Olympiad from 1992-2004. In 1998 he scored the best individual performance. He was also the main sponsor and organiser of the matches Karpov vs. Istratescu in 2005 and between the World Champion Veselin Topalov and the European Champion Dieter Nisipeanu in 2006. He was working as a local representative and city Councillor in the city of Prievidza for six years and he was responsible for the coordination of development projects. In 1996, he co-founded IBS Slovakia, a consulting company. Since then, Martin has gained many experiences through his deep involvement in programming, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of European projects and programmes in Slovakia and abroad (Nicaragua, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Serbia, Mongolia, Kenya and South Sudan). Until now, he has worked in international teams with experts from more than 30 countries. As an experienced trainer and facilitator he performed numerous training sessions and workshops, totalling a few thousands of participants. As a chess player he became a junior champion of Slovakia before his university studies and professional career took over. For the last ten years he has financially supported his local chess club in Slovakia and its activities. Since 2009, he has been the president of the Slovak Chess Federation. Fiona Steil-Antoni Campaign Press officer Born on 10th January 1989 in Niederkorn, Luxembourg Fiona started playing chess at the age of 9 and has since represented Luxembourg in all the Olympiads since 2002, where her best result was the gold medal on board 2 at the 2006 Olympiad in Turin. In 2007 and 2008 she was part of the organising committee of the Kaupthing Open, the biggest and strongest international tournament ever to be held in Luxembourg. She has been working for Chess Evolution since February 2012, where she translates and edits the weekly newsletter. She also wrote some of articles for Europe-Echecs and she is part of the Chess- Anyone team, a recent addition to the online chess media. She was also part of the Media team at the Reykjavik Open 2014, where she was one of the official photographers and did the live commentary of the games. Besides chess, Fiona is currently studying Events Management in London. She is fluent in English, French, German, Luxembourgish and has some knowledge of Spanish and Italian. .

Karlovych (UKR) MATTERS DISCUSSED At the beginning of the meeting, we addressed the items discussed in the official WOM report submitted to FIDE. The Chairperson (Ms. Polgar) especially praised FIDE for the Women’s World Blitz and Rapid Championships in Saudi Arabia which had a substantially increased prize fund, though it was only one third of the prize in the Open section. The total prize fund in the Women’s championships were $250,000 for each event. Beatriz Marinello reported on her project “Smart Girl” on behalf of the Social Action commission, which included projects in Uganda, Chile, France and the US. This projects seeks to increase participation by girls in chess in those countries. Martha Fierro elaborated on the project about chess in women prisons in Genoa, Italy, which involved the training of refugees in Italy who in turn, train women prisoners. Sophia Rohde from the United States shared some of the work their federation is in doing to promote chess for girls in the USA. They subsequently presented a video showing various interviews with young girls in chess, highlighting the benefits and challenges that they experience in chess.

    2ND WOMEN’S WORLD TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP 2009 Report by Chief Arbiter Ignatius Leong 1 General Information Dates: 31st August to 11th September 2009 Venue: Ningbo, China Appeals Committee: Andrei Selivanov (RUS) – Chairman; William Kelleher (USA) & Ye Jiangchuan (CHN) Chief Arbiter: Ignatius Leong (SIN); Deputy Chief Arbiter: Xie Jun (CHN) 2 Playing Venue, Players’ Meeting and Draw of Colours 2.1 The participating teams were hosted in a 5-star hotel where the tournament was played. 2.2 The organisers provided live-game coverage hosted by the Chinese technicians. 2.3 The Players’ Meeting lasted less than 30 minutes. By popular request from the team captains, the playing schedule was slightly adjusted. The Technical Meeting held on 1 September 2009 decided that the play-off match is played on four boards. In the case of a 2-2 tie, a further match will be played on three boards using the Sudden-Death Time Control of 5 minutes for Black and 6 minutes for White. In case of draw in any game, Black wins. The team captains make decide the team composition and the draw for colours shall be made separately for the two matches. 2.4 The Draw of Lots was conducted by Deputy Chief Arbiter Xie Jun during the Opening Ceremony. 3 Special Measures and Incidents 3.1 All Players, Captains and Coaches respected the Regulations; coming to the venue early for security check, seated at the playing table several minutes before the start of each game; attending both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. 3.2 During the Games, there was absolutely no special incident arising which required special attention of the Arbiters.

In 1999 he achieved three GM norms within only two months, which made him the youngest grandmaster at the time, at the age of 13 years 10 months and 13 days, a record that was only broken two years later by GM Sergey Karjakin . In 2000, Bu defeated the Azerbaijani chess talent Teimour Radjabov by 6½-1½ in an eight-game Future World Champions Match organized by Garry Kasparov and was considered a super talent for future world champion contender. In 2004, Bu became the chess champion of China.

Jordan (GER), M. Fierro (ECU), F. Dapiran (ITA), M. Abol-Khair (EGY), G. El Sahar (EGY), O. Boytsun (UKR), G. Borg (MLT), D. Menendoz (ECU), M . Castro Solano (CRC) Susan Polgar opened the session and passed the word to Alexandra Kosteniuk. Alexandra reported about the work of the WOM from the FIDE Congress in Halkidki in 2009 till nowaday. From October 2009 till October 2010 the WOM has done many things to promote women’s chess in the world. Several Goodwill events took place in March 2010, conducted by the secretary of the women’s commission Martha Fierro. One FIDE Trainer’s Seminar, jointly organized by FIDE Women's Commission and FIDE Trainers Commission in association with US Chess Federation and American Chess University, was held May 7-9, 2010 in Atlanta, USA. The WOM received 2 invitations for women players to participate with all their expenses covered in a closed WIM norm and 1 for WGM closed (also with everything cover) in the closed tournament in Guingamp, France. FIDE Caissa Award was awarded to Nadezhda Kosintseva. From this year on this award will be given to the best players of the preceding year. The new voting will start in January 2011. From 2010 the WOM awards the women’s golden organizer award. This year the award went to the international women’s tournament of the 8 th March of Belgrade, Serbia which takes place yearly in the Spring.
