This project will improve the Big Creek crossing on FSR 16 by installing a 144' bulb tee bridge and a concrete box culvert over a side channel, restoring aquatic organism passage to Big Creek and reduce 060404 FSR16-Big Creek Crossing AOP Reconstruction DM OR recurrent maintenance. 0614 UMA Long Meadows Work Center Water System OR Upgrades to the water system will eliminate the immediate health risk of surface water contamination. Asbestos testing and abatement is required at sites around the forest to determine the extent of asbestos 0614 UMA Facilities Asbestos Abatement OR containing material and abate the hazards. Route To Munra Falls (0.3 miles) From the trailhead, follow the well used trail south into Tanner Creek. Hiking distance is usually between 6 - 10 miles, and usually with an elevation gain/loss between 800 - 2000 ft. Longer hikes, greater elevation gains or unusual trail conditions will be noted in the hike description. Hikes leave at 8:00 a.m., unless otherwise indicated. Rambles are typically shorter, less rugged, and more leisurely paced -- perfect for beginners. Outings are usually 5-7 miles with comfortable elevation gains and good trail conditions.     Wahclella Falls, OR Notice: 1/1/2021 – This trail is now open. Several trails in the Columbia River Gorge are closed until further notice, sometime in 2021 or later, due to the Eagle Creek Fire. Vicinity Location: 35 miles east of Portland, Oregon in the Columbia River National Scenic Area. Directions: From Portland, Oregon, take I-84 east for about 40 miles and take exit #40 for Bonneville Dam. Follow the road to the right, down to the parking lot for the trailhead. There are 12 regular and 2 handicapped parking slots. More parking is available along the edge of the offramp and there is overflow parking about ¼ mile east at the Toothrock Trailhead. From Hood River, Oregon, take I-84 west to exit #40, turn left, then turn right at the “T” to find the parking lot. Length and Elevation: Total length is 2.4 miles round trip. Elevation gain is 450 feet and 450 foot loss. Elevation at the trailhead is 75 feet, the high point is 375 feet. Trail: Wahclella Falls Trail #436 with connections to Trail #400. There is a restroom seasonally available at the trailhead. The closest bathrooms with a flush toilet are at the Bonneville Dam fish hatchery. A Northwest Forest Park permit is required to park at the trailhead. There should be a fee collection box for the $5 day use permit.     The OregOn COasT June 11-17, 2017 Cannon Beach We went with my parents and the Esplin’s to the Oregon Coast. We had been to most of these places in 2015 with the Maisey’s and had such a good time that I wanted to take my parents. We stayed in a rental in Lincoln City for the week. There are so many things to do on the Oregon Coast. A couple new things we did on this trip that were highlights is check out Astoria and hike the Drift Creek Falls Trail. The weather can always be tricky coming to the coast but we’ve been lucky for the most part. We have fond memories of this area and will visit frequently. There’s always something new to try! Itinerary: Sunday: Drive to Lincoln City. Multnomah Falls, Portland LDS Temple Monday: Newport – both light houses, tide pools, walking on the bridge, Hatfield Marine Science Center, Historic Bayfront, Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area Tuesday: Cape Meares, Tillamook Wednesday: Devils Punchbowl, Drift Creek Falls Trail, glass blowing, beach at Lincoln City Thursday: Heceta Head Lighthouse, Cape Perpetua Natural Area, Whale watching at Depot Bay Friday: Astoria - Astoria Column, trolley, bridge, Gooney’s house; Fort Stevens, Cannon Beach Saturday: Drive home.
