www.allsaintscs.com www.facebook.com/allsaintscs This Year’s Lenten Project... This year we will have an opportunity for our school community to grow and renew our shared Catholic Faith through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. See the Lenten Calendar at the end of this newsletter.

Focus On Prayer And Fasting Please refer to the Lenten Calendar which is attached to the school newsletter. This calendar is full of simple everyday ways in which your family can grow together through prayer and fasting. It is amazing what a little prayer and reflection each day can do for the souls of both parents and children.

Focus On Almsgiving How Much Change Can You Make for Families Who Are Hungry? Our school community will be participating in a Change for Change campaign in support of the All Saints Food Pantry in Detroit. During the solemn time of Lent, we also want think outside of ourselves and help others in need during this Jubilee Year of Mercy, as declared by Pope Francis. Throughout the weeks of Lent, students are encouraged to bring in change and fill their grade-level bucket. The grade level with the highest monetary amount after all change has been accounted for will receive a week of out of uniform days.

Sharing Our Faith As we celebrate the season of Lent inside our All Saints building, we encourage families to celebrate Lent outside of our building, too! In addition to following the Lenten calendar provided, think of ways your family can grow and renew in this special season whether through your own parish’s activities or a family activity completely on your own. Please feel free to send any pictures and stories you have of your family‘s Lenten journey. We look forward to sharing them with our community.

Cultural Project Featured In News... It started as a simple idea two years ago, and became a reality last week when All Saints Catholic School student, Isabella Barlow, in conjunction with the school’s curriculum director, found a way to share the beauty of cultures from around the world during National Catholic Schools Week.

“We were able to incorporate Isabella’s concept of celebrating cultures from around the world easily into our history and geography curriculum due to the rich depth of topics covered at each grade level,” said Michelle Shore, curriculum director. “Celebrating throughout Catholic Schools Week allowed teachers to put a greater emphasis on studying each country through a Catholic lens. It was really a great project for the entire school community to enjoy and learn about not just the countries at their grade, but to hear about them school-wide throughout the week.”

Each grade level completed research about their assigned country, which included the presence of the Catholic Church, saints from the region, historical events, cultural elements, currency, and economics. The week’s events concluded with Olympic like games and ceremonies representing each of the countries celebrated throughout the school.

“My goal was to bring a number of new cultures into school as a way for us to learn more about the different places and hopefully eliminate some of the stereotypes that exist,” Article appeared in Sunday, February 14th shared seventh grader Isabella Barlow. “I was so excited to see this entire project come Hometown Life newspaper. together and become such an intricate part of our curriculum over the last few weeks.”

The students’ work will remain on display throughout Lent as a reminder of the presence of the Catholic Church throughout the world and to celebrate the curriculum students are exposed to through the year.
