FRONT COVER: The last Centurion race of the first hundred years - Bernie Ball and Richard Spenceley celebrate the final few steps of 100 miles, as they are about to become some of the last new Centurions. Editorial What a summer it turned out to be. The highest level of performances we have seen, by the youngest generation of walkers for many years. Great signs of what lies ahead. New proposals and developments are also underway for our sport, such as DQ amendments and the first of an annual awards dinner and conference at the National Centre for Race Walking.

While some events this summer have had short start lists due to holidays, illness, etc, other events have grown in size, and big events (to be featured in a special in the next issue) have attracted huge crowds of people who could be drawn into race walking. More and more interest is being shown in us from around the country. As the sport continues to grow, we should all be proud that we were there at the turning point and all did what we could to bring the joys and benefits of our sport back into the mainstream.
