My approach is to assess factors that affect immediate, short-, and long- term survival.  Field & laboratory skills: boat electrofishing, bottom trawling, gillnetting, gastric lavage, taking and analyzing blood samples (whole blood glucose and plasma cortisol), radio tagging surgery and tracking of fish, sampling zooplankton and benthic invertebrates, isotope sample collection, processing, and analysis Researcher, Kansas Fish and Wildlife Cooperative Unit, Kansas State University, January 2014 –October 2014  The main objective of the project is to monitor stocked juvenile largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) and their survival success.  Field & laboratory skills: measuring water characteristics (dissolved oxygen, specific conductivity, and water temperature), distinguishing littoral habitats based on sediment characteristics, sampling fish with boat electrofishing, barge and back pack electrofishing, seining, fyke nets, minnow traps, sampling both zooplankton and larval fish, driving and trailering a motor boat, and the use of a generator Master’s Thesis Research, Institute for a Sustainable Environment, Clarkson University, 2011-2013  This project looked at deciphering nearshore and offshore ecosystems based on water depth and water velocity history. By distinguishing the ecosystems I was able to compare the nearshore and offshore crustacean zooplankton, rotifer, and phytoplankton populations to determine if the nearshore was acting as a source for zooplankton  Field & laboratory skills: sampling water quality parameters ( dissolved oxygen, color dissolves organic matter, total phosphorus, silicate, water temperature, nitrogen), biological parameters (chlorophyll-a, phytoplankton, crustacean zooplankton, and rotifer populations), use of YSI, fluorometer, fluoroprobe, and Niskin bottle Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, August 2010- December 2010  The overall objective of this research was to characterize the relationship between blue mussels (Mytilus edulis), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), and a species of microsporidian (Loma salmonidae). The main objective was to determine if the mussels could harbor harmful microsporidian spores, allowing for the continues reinfection of rainbow trout  Field & laboratory skills: taking care of fish and bivalves in a laboratory setting, transmission electron microscopy, staining microsporidian spores to determine their viability, fish necropsy Emily E. Ball 2 Volunteer Researcher, Gulf Coast Research Lab, University of Southern Mississippi, 2009  Research focused on Atlantic Sharpnose sharks (Rhizoprionodon terraenovae) the main objective of this research was to determine if vertebrae could be used as a tool for determining an individual’s age  Field & laboratory skills: long lining, gill netting, acoustic tagging and tracking of individuals, measuring water quality parameters (secchi, salinity, water temperature), and pit tagging individuals Volunteer Researcher, Gulf Coast Research Lab, University of Southern Mississippi, 2008  Research focused on characterizing fish communities with changes in salinity  Field & laboratory skills: trawling, fish identification, use of YSI, and use of a Niskin bottle Undergraduate Research, SUNY Potsdam , 2008-2010  Main objective of this research was describing the interaction between crustacean zooplankton groups with chlorophyll-a, and a freshwater cnidarian  Field & laboratory skills: measuring chlorophyll-a, identification of crustacean zooplankton ADDITIONAL RELEVANT WORK HISTORY Graduate Research Assistant, Iowa State University, 2015- Present  Designed and implemented a research plan to evaluate factors that affect post- stocking survival of advanced walleye fingerlings  Purchased and maintaining field and laboratory equipment  Composed an approved IACUC for the project  Responsible for monitoring the project budget  Contribute to paper reviews for professional journals  Mentor technicians and undergraduate students working/ volunteering on my research project  Coordinate and supervise a research team consisting of technicians, research biologists, hatchery personnel, and student volunteers  Create and present lectures; prepare laboratory activities and demonstrated field techniques for fisheries courses Graduate Teaching Assistant, Kansas State University, 2014- December 2014  Co-teach a general biology course, create online quizzes, lecture on course material, hold office hours, proctor exams  The goal of the course is to introduce students to the fundamental concept in the field of biology, materials include introductory information on genetics, ecology, physiology, microbiology, and botany Water Safety Instructor, Hearts for Youth, 2011-2013  Worked with youth of various age groups; taught my students the fundamentals of and water safety; designed and taught lesson plans
