October 30, 2009 Rutherford House remembers Canadian heroes

Edmonton... Visit Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site on November 8 from noon to 4 p.m. to pay respects to the sacrifices and hard work of Canadian heroes on both the battle field and the home front. Visitors can sample economical wartime cuisine and take a peek inside a lovingly prepared soldier care package. Browse First World War displays while exploring the beautiful home of ’s first Premier, Alexander Cameron Rutherford. Indulge your taste buds at the Arbour Restaurant, open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 780-422-2697 (dial 310-0000 for toll-free access within Alberta). The Whatnot Shop will be open and features many unique gifts including specialty teas and treats, reproduction antique books, Edwardian jewelry and toys for all ages. Rutherford House is a post-Edwardian mansion built in 1911 for Alberta’s first premier. Operated by Alberta Culture and Community Spirit, Rutherford House is located at 11153 Saskatchewan Drive, at the northeast corner of the campus in . The museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and youth (aged 7-17), $12 for families (2 adults and their children) and free for children under 6.
