Dublin Ladies Association has joined forces with Breast Cancer Ireland to help raise awareness of breast cancer whilst also supporting the charity’s “Lace Up For A Cure” Campaign. To raise awareness of the “Lace Up For A Cure” campaign the Dublin squad will wear the pink laces in Sunday’s Leinster Final.

Well done to Dublin’s Minor Footballers in Thursday night’s comprehensive win over Offaly in the Leinster MFC semi-final. The starting fifteen had four Na Fianna reps on board; Aaron Byrne, Eoghan McHugh, Eoin Murchan and Glen O’Reilly and the panel included Jack Carey, Cathal Doran and Al Fitzgerald. Members’ Subscriptions

Members are reminded that subscriptions for the current year became due and payable immediately following the Club’s AGM last October. All GAA Registrations were submitted on 1st April as per regulation, and any member whose membership was unpaid on that date was not included in this Registration as per Club policy.

The consequences of this are that unregistered players are no longer insured to play or train and do so at their own risk. In addition, teams playing unregistered players could be adjudged an illegal team and suffer the loss of points and even elimination from competitions.

Members’ subs can be paid in the bar on Wednesday nights between 6.30pm and 9pm and again on Saturday mornings from 9am to 11am. Payments by card, cheque and cash will be accepted. Subscriptions can also be paid at the club office, Mon to Fri, 9am to 1pm.

2002 Girls Take Spoils in Isles Tournament

Na Fianna 2002 girls were delighted to be invited to take part in the inaugural Alan Cregan Camogie Tournament in Erins Isle. This U12 tournament has been going for many years, and this was the first year that there was a girl’s side to it. We were thrilled to be able to supply two teams.

Our usual “yellows” and “blues” were completely mixed around for a change, and a “Pink” team was powerfully managed by Rachel Rogers and Paula White, and a “Purple” team capably looked after by Cormac Ó Donnchú and Lesley Jamieson.

The Pink team played two very strong games to top their group and reach the semi-finals. The Purple team took a little longer to settle down, and with three draws under their belt it was necessary to play out a penalty shoot out against St. Finians, where they held their nerve and came out victorious to reach the semi-finals.

Just when we thought that the day was going “Na Fianna’s way” we discovered that Na Fianna Pink had to play Na Fianna Purple in the semi final! This was a thrilling 30 minute match, with nothing between the two sides, everything to play for, and all friendships now “out the window”! With just 30 seconds to go the Purple team scored a mighty goal to reach the finals.

Na Fianna Nuacht 11ú Iúil 2014 5 Na Fianna Nuacht

The final was another thriller, this time against Erin’s Isle the host team. Both teams played a superb match in the most sporting manner, with Na Fianna just edging past Erin’s Isle to become champions on the day.

This was a fantastic day, and congratulations to Erin’s Isle on being excellent hosts providing lunch, a well stocked tuck shop, (along with pool, videos and other entertainment available for our players, siblings etc.), and a very well organised day.

The day’s success by the Na Fianna teams more than made up for the girls’ disappointment the previous week when they were narrowly beaten by a single point in extra time in the final of the Ger Canavan Tournament by St. Brigids. The girls deserve huge congratulations for making it all the way to the final.

Juvenile Handball Presentation Night

Na Fianna’s Handball section held their Juvenile Presentation night recently, see selection of awards photos below, and Frank Daly tells the story and reviews the year.

A great night was had by all in Mobhi road on Fri 20th June when we had nearly forty kids enjoying the presentations and a bit of grub. These young kids, boys and girls are really a pleasure to look after and we look forward to having them back training in September. We will let the parents know when we are starting back in August.

I would like to thank all the mentors Cliona Ui Dhalaigh, Aine O Gorman, Meabh Smith, Paul Grall, Christy Donnelly and all the parents whom without their help all this would be impossible.

This has been a great year for Handball in the Club. We competed in the Dublin Championships and did very well. We went on tour to Armagh and Williamstown and competed very well in both these venues. We had a great trip to Williamstown in Galway and

Na Fianna Nuacht 11ú Iúil 2014 7 Na Fianna Nuacht

spent the weekend there and hope to travel again next year to two events, probably in Inis Oir and Wialliamstown again. We are going from strength to strength so let’s keep up the good work heading into next year.

The court has been partially painted and a one wall court marked out on front wall. It will be finished over next two weeks hopefully and we intend opening the alley on Sunday mornings from 10.30am to 12.30pm, after the paint job is finished, for any kids that want to come and play a bit of One wall for fun.

End of Summer Disco Fundraiser

The 2001 girls group are getting their Féile planning off to a start with an "End of Summer" disco to be held in Na Fianna on Friday the 22nd August. This fundraising event is targeted at the Club’s 200 and 2001 boys and girls. A strictly ticket-only event, tickets will be on sale through the Club from 15th August.
