Dear Friends:

Be An Angel is truly proud of the results achieved in 2012-2013. The success that has been achieved can directly be attributed to our committed Board of Directors, an energetic staff, loyal volunteers, financial supporters and partners. We developed a solid three- year objective plan and have at present wrapped up three of the seven goals focusing on quality and sustainability and the results speak for themselves. Our 2012 Impact: • 4,966 special needs very low-income children received ($50) of Christmas gifts this past year which were personally bought from their individual wish list by local volunteers. • Constructed the Alison Hardin Playground and Eli Bradford Garden of Angels barrier- free playground at the Jo Kelly School in Ft. Worth. ($450,000 project) • Constructed Be An Angel’s 3oth barrier-free playground in Houston at Orange Grove Elementary School in Aldine ISD. • Provided 30+ families with medically fragile children a weekend to experience Camp Be An Angel in Burton, Texas. • Provided 14 families 12 hours of skilled, at-home respite care each month • Hosted two-summer respite care programs with allowed working parents a safe place to have their special needs children cared for during the workday while school was out of session. • Be An Angel’s S.U.C.C.E.S.S. traveling golf program held tournaments at eight different schools within three school districts teaching ALL special needs children of their district the game of gold. The tournaments concluded at the INSPERITY SENIOR TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP in The Woodlands where our children partnered and played with South Texas PGA professionals. • Hundreds of hearing aids were distributed both locally and internationally to profoundly deaf children making hearing a reality in their lives.

We are taking a journey. We continue to re-think and prepare for the next five years with ongoing opportunities to be the best we can be and the hub source for special needs children who have no other resource to turn. It is our job to use all available means to help create a world where every special needs or profoundly deaf child has the opportunity to improve their personal quality of life, in order to facilitate that child’s ability to grow physically and emotionally to the full extent of their individual capacity.

All in all, this has been another successful year for Be An Angel. We have added new programs, grown programs and served more children than in the past. This could not have been accomplished without the aid of many people, but mainly the very generous people who have supported our children with their time and their money. We are very proud of our efforts to care for our children, but we could not do this without the help and support of all the Be An Angel family.

Thank you for being part of that family!

Bill Shank Chairman, Be An Angel Fund, Inc.

MORE THAN THE WAY WE WERE

We have come a long way the last 27 years in the way we view and treat individuals with disabilities. The enthusiasm and vision with which our organization began in 1986 have not only been sustained but have grown significantly. Our durable structure as a resource for the disabled child and their family, the stability and creativity of our leadership, a dedicated staff, and the dynamism of our field together fortifies our collective dedication to our mission and vision.

The Board enjoyed a strong year in 2012-2013 providing thousands of children with special needs throughout Houston and its surrounding areas important and life changing programs and equipment. Thanks to our friends at TXU, we were once again able to provide services to a select group of children in the Dallas and Ft. Worth area.

We enjoyed the pleasure of honoring four ambassadors that continuously lead the way in children’s causes with our fifth annual “Angel Awards” gala, which was held the Rice Hotel this past spring. It was an awesome success, thanks to the efforts of our Chair couple, Felix and Patsy Rhymes along with White Oak Gives Back Foundation and Momentum Jaguar, our faithful sponsors of the event. Our celebrity honorees were highlighted for their efforts in delivering services and programs to all children within our great City. Be An Angel’s own celebrity Board Director, Dan Pastorini, hosted the Dan Pastorini Golf Classic raising more support for our children than in any previous tournaments. Moreover, old and loyal friend, Senator Dan Patrick coupled with the efforts from KSEV 700 AM concluded our Christmas gift-giving program to be our best year ever! The City of Houston, The George R. Brown Convention Center, Lady Clay Shooters along with far-reaching to fresh faces and latest programs have all worked together to give a voice to special needs children who rarely have a voice of their own.

Our new and updated Be An Angel website, along with our Facebook energies have accelerated our energies in public awareness allowing for instant messaging to our donors on our accomplishments and needs. I am honored to work with a very dedicated group of men and women who comprise the Board of Directors and Advisory Board (with the fantastic leadership of Bill Shank). These individuals, along with their committee members have devoted hundreds of hours collectively over the past year, outside of their day jobs to insure that our mission is realized. They listened closely to the requests from both institutions/schools of which we serve, the children, and their families from within. As a caring, committed and compassionate support system with an emphasis on leadership, accountability and public awareness, we believe that by identifying and fulfilling the needs of our very special children, we provide the spark will indeed brighten their lives and contribute to a longer, more productive and fuller life for the children we serve.

We thank the many various groups and individuals that have continued to support Be An Angel and the many that have joined our team of support this year! We face immense challenges that have impacted non-profit organizations and the effects of these challenges will be felt for many years to come. The current economic woes are being felt in every industry – no one seems immune. That being said, I believe that if we are good stewards, nimble and creative, we can find opportunity in the face of challenges in the next few years. Our friends, our donors and our partners view us in meeting the needs of our services with immediate results…. And that is a very good thing! We are grateful to be the chosen instrument that paves a way for our “angels” smiles. It makes it all worthwhile! By relying solely on our community, taking no Federal, State or local government funding, rich treasures were and continue to be uncovered for these very special children.

Thanks to your support and willingness to share your time, energy and financial resources, we have concluded with celebration! We look to our 2013-2012 year with high anticipation diligently striving to new “hope” for God’s children.

With A Grateful Heart,

Marti Boone
