REGION COORDINATOR REPORT Hi there I am your new South West Region Coordinator, it seems that old man winter has us in its icy grip right now but it wont be long before the sun brings back the riding season. I have some goals for the chapters in the south west region I would like us to increase our funding to the state organiza- tion times are tough and money is tight in order to keep our freedoms we have to raise money to support our friends and keep them in office. Next month Abate is having a swap meet and motorcycle show in Springfield, here is a great event for you to attend and raise money by attending. Then there is Legislative Days and that has been moved from March to April 25 this is a good time to meet your elected official's I would like to see repre- sentative's from each chapter attend this event it is very important that our states politician's get our input. They need to know how we feel about all the motorcycling and off issues that affect us so each chapter has plenty of time to ask for members to lobby for Abate that day. Another goal of mine is too increase membership there are a couple of ways to do that one is to talk to all riders young and old and hand them an application, then another way is to have chapter rides and invite your friends to go on dinner rides or just go for a ride and talk to them about ABATE. I want to make it fun to be and ABATE member and bring in new members to help in the fight for motorcycle rights. This is my first article so I have kept it very short I want to meet all of you this year by attending your meetings and events. Dennis (Skinny) Kinnikin

Hello Freedom Fighters

Well, here it is 2018. I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and a great New Year. We are getting very close to the 2018 State Seminar. Hopefully everyone attending brings their new ideas and thinking caps. I am really looking forward to the breakout sessions. Sharing ideas with one another will hopefully make 2018 another successful year. Once again there is a lot on ABATE's plate for 2018. Profiling, ethanol, new legislators, will be some of the challenges we will have to face. Our Chapter is getting ready for our first fundraiser of the year. We look forward to a really good time, seeing everyone and raising money for a great cause! We are struggling with a lot of sickness right now with the flu epi- demic running rampant but hope to get all of our members well and back on their feet. We all look forward to the warmer weather when we can go riding. Our Chapter has decided to once again have the Shake Ur Bones run. The Southwest Region will not have the Marble Run this year, so this will help take the place of that for you riders that like to travel to different destinations during the summer. Our chapter had a ham raffle at the end of last year and our very own Ed (Cuz) Show won the 21 pound country cured ham. He graciously do- nated it to the Salvation Army for their Christmas dinner. Martha Patterson won the membership contest. She signed up four members, and her name was drawn for the $100.00 prize. Butch Clements, our Activities Coordinator, was the only member with 100% perfect attendance, so he got first place in our attendance competition, winning $50.00 and a free year membership.

Just remember, Spring is on the Way!

Stay Warm, Ride Safe, Ride Smart. Gene Ely, President, Piasa
