PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT SOUTH ACADEMY

“Our mission is to inspire and motivate pupils to participate in physical activity and promote lifelong engagement in sport. We aim to develop teamwork, creativity, decision making and sportsmanship through providing enjoyable and challenging lessons in the pursuit of sporting excellence. SNA PE Department, 2018-19

The successful applicant will join a team of five / six highly motivated professionals, in enabling students to maximise their potential by developing a deep understanding of physical performance through engaging, challenging and enjoyable PE lessons. In addition, we employ a School Games Organiser who also coordinates the School Sports programme. The faculty has a friendly and supportive atmosphere with teaching and learning at the centre of everything we do and staff are supported in continually developing their practice as we all strive for excellence. Development work is routinely carried out as a team due to the positive working relationships within the faculty. We have formed good relationships with the Trust PE network and take an active part in the further professional development this provides. Staff have the opportunity to take part in other external, subject-specific professional development.

Physical Education theory lessons are mainly based on the ground floor of our brand new school building that opened in September 2016. Indoor facilities include a specialist teaching room, brand new fitness suite, dance room and main hall. These are complemented by our external floodlit 3G pitch, 7 x tennis courts, grassed areas and a sportshall which was refurbished (£1.2 million) in October 2018, along with 4 new changing rooms. All teachers are provided with laptops.
