location & facilities HISTORY

n Iyar of 1965 Rav Chaim Pinchus Scheinberg Idecided to move his Yeshiva from Bensonhurst, NY to Yerushalayim Ir Hakodesh. The move at the time was unprecedented, and Yeshivah Torah Ore became the rst “American” Yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel. Rav Scheinberg had already established himself, as a Talmid Chacham and a Gadol in America. Having received his Smicha at the age of 19, and then traveling to the Mir in Europe, the Rosh Yeshiva had the opportunity to learn under some of the greatest Torah Giants of the previous generation. From the Meitschter Ilyui, Rav Shimon Shkop, and Rav Moshe Soloveitchik, to Rav Lazer Yudel Finkel, Rav Yeruchom Levovitz and Rav Yechezkel Levenstien, Rav Scheinberg had the unique opportunity to learn under Gedolei Torah on two separate continents.

HISTORY

n 1971 what was then an act of recognition Iof The Rosh Yeshiva’s status as a renowned he was approached to become the Dayan and Morah Horaya of Kiryat Mattersdorf. Previously such an act was inconceivable, to have an American Rabbi be a Posek of an Israeli neighborhood. Rav Scheinberg quickly became famous in Eretz Yisroel as a Gadol BeTorah. His setting became one with all the Gedolim in Eretz Yisroel, his scholary wisdom and clear p’sak was and is appreciated by past and present Gedolei Yisroel in Eretz Yisroel. He earned the respect and appreciation of all the other Gedolei Hador. While his command of the English language and ability to relate to the average American, endeared the Rosh Yeshiva to the many young Americans who were moving to Eretz Yisroel in the 1970’s, he has been sought after by the Yerushalmi and overall Israeli population who quickly found their way to his ever open door. HISTORY

n 1964, after a trip to Eretz Yisroel to visit his father’s kever, andI after guidance and encouragement by his father-in-law, Rav tz”l, the Rosh Yeshiva decided to move Yeshiva Torah Ore to Eretz Yisroel. When the Rosh Yeshiva determined to make this transition and to embark on this couragous unique voyage, he was not alone. Accompanying him and his Rebitzin on their historic move was Rav and Reb. Chaim Dov Altusky and, Rav and Reb. Simcha Scheinberg, along, with seven families and twenty bochrim. The Yeshiva was housed temporarily in the Diskin Orphan Home, where it was to stay until the conclusion of the Six Day War. After the war, preparations got underway to construct the building for the yeshiva in the Mattersdorf section of Yerushalayim. Gedolei Torah and important people were present at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new, now famous location on Rechov Sorotzkin. Among them was Hagaon Rav Zt”l, with whom the Rosh Yeshiva remained close until Rav Shlomo Zalman’s petirah. The Rosh Yeshiva gave a moving speech which he ended by saying ‘Nedari laHashem ashalem bisochachi Yerushalayim.’-” His commitment to Hashem he will ful ll in the midst of Yerushalayim.” This was the beginning of the ful llment of his promise to build the yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel. Today we see the ful llment of this promise. Yeshiva Torah Ore has developed into a citadel of Torah, which includes a kollel of over 400 yungerleit. However, to this day the jewel of the Rosh Yeshiva’s crown is the American program, the program that gave him the courage and the wherewithal to start the Yeshiva, is ful lling the Rosh Yeshiva’s promise each and every day.
