George Parra Producer Having worked on over 65 feature films. Covering all genres from big action films such as Terminator 2, The Rock, and XXX; as well as working on studio classics such as GHOST, THE MASK OF ZORRO, and THE FAST AND FURIOUS. His success came from smaller, more independent films, such as ELECTION, SIDEWAYS, THE DESCENDANTS, which led to SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, THE WAY WAY BACK, NEBRASKA, AMERICAN HUSTLE, TRUMBO and JOY. Mr. Parra collaborated both as an Assistant Director and now as a Producer, with directors such as Alexander Payne, Peter Yates, Oliver Stone, James Cameron, Michael Bay, Rob Cohen, Martin Campbell, Jay Roach and David O’Russell to name a few. After Graduating from San Diego State University, with a degree in Film and Theatre, he began his career working as an Production Assistant with directors such as James Cameron and Francis Ford Coppola on their films THE TERMINATOR and PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED. A member of the Directors Guild and Producers Guild of America, he has been steadily Producing a number of films for various companies as well as developing his own projects. Bringing 30 years film production experience. His experience covers all areas of physical production, dealing with budgets ranging from 3 million to 65 million dollars. His many years in the feature film business opens up a vast catalog of accomplished actors, directors and technicians. As well as a strong relationship with all major bond companies, all unions, and all major production vendors. Along with experience working in most major cities in the US, has also worked in many major cities in the US and Canada, as well as Eastern and Western Europe, the South Pacific, and Mexico. And the San Fernando Valley resident calls Santa Clarita “a special place,” according to local film property owners who have played host to the luminary for his latest film that debuts tonight, “Once Upon a Time … In Hollywood.” The latest installment in the Tarantino filmography follows the story of “a faded television actor and his stunt double (who) strive to achieve fame and success in the film industry during the final years of Hollywood’s Golden Age in 1969 Los Angeles,” according to IMDb.com. The film features Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie. Tarantino and movie fans were given a teaser trailer where the opening shot was that of Melody Ranch’s “Main Street” set. Veluzat said that the production team had been working with the studio for a couple months, from planning to setting up to filming, and for him, it was a special experience. Tarantino has filmed two of his last three movies at Melody Ranch in Newhall, according to studio manager Daniel Veluzat, and he’s praised the SCV in interviews and conversations with local residents. He really does like it here, said Veluzat, in reference to a question about why Tarantino has filmed his movies at Melody Ranch. “He calls it a special place,” he said. And on Thursday night, “Once Upon a Time” opens in theaters across the country, including the Santa Clarita Valley, featuring scenes shot at both Melody Ranch and the Saugus Speedway.

1 Small Wonder Philip Horne DOWNSIZING [February 2018, Sight & Sound] There has been a long and somewhat anxious wait among admirers of Alexander Payne’s films since Nebraska in 2013 – a bleak, beautiful, drily funny picture of the post-industrial Midwest and sad, haunted lives. Four years later Payne, who still lives in his native Omaha, has come out with a grand, astonishingly daring movie – a satirical fable, or blackly comic science fiction epic, or unexpected love story. As it goes on, there’s a serious, even tragic side to the film, but its main premise is treated with such inventiveness both visual and verbal that we get constant jolts of pleasure at the imaginative scope of its makers’ conceptions. The absurd technology that scientists concerned with ‘Human Scale and Sustainability’ and climate change develop for reducing the size of the human population – by making them five inches high – is in effect like a giant microwave: it even pings when the transformation is complete. It’s deliberately low-tech. The process, invented by idealistic Norwegians to produce a ‘self- sustainable community of the small’, is imagined being then commercialised and normalised in familiar ways by global/American capitalism, sold to punters as a time-share-like ‘heaven’ called ‘Leisureland’, which is ‘like winning the lottery every day’. This because a modest nest-egg of $152,000 when transferred (unshrunk) to its newly-tiny owner’s account in a ‘small city’ translates as the equivalent of $22,5000,000: it’s an American dream. The script is full of delicious size jokes, as downsizing becomes absorbed into idiom and things get re-scaled, so that we see ‘the first small baby ever born’.
