My professional goal is to contribute to the promotion and management of the arts with special emphasis on textiles. My focus is on cultural and educational projects that improve the quality of life for artisans within their communities and within society as a whole. I favor initiatives designed to conserve textile traditions (materials, processes, techniques and iconography) in community‐based projects that allow artisans, artists and designers to collaborate. My efforts stem from respect for both tradition and innovation. I seek to promote research into traditional textile techniques for creating textiles and to support innovation in contemporary textile production in the hope that they will enhance the well being of indigenous artisan communities in Oaxaca, Mexico. As director of a relatively new textile museum I am most interested in connecting with colleagues in museums, universities and art/design schools outside of Mexico to exchange knowledge and learn from the experience of others who share my professional expertise and interests. Through these contacts I hope to bring new and fresh ideas to the Oaxaca Textile Museum and offer my own expertise to others.
