The Political and Social Sciences Department is located within the Ciutadella Campus. Located just a few metres from Ciutadella Park and only 200 meters from the sea, the Ciutadella Campus is the biggest urban campus. The space consists of six unique buildings connected by wide pathways and terraces bustling with young Social Science and Humanities students. This is where the full time English-language European Politics and Society Václav Havel Erasmus Mundus Master —among others— is taught. The two main buildings on the campus, Jaume I and Roger de Llúria, were originally built and used as military barracks. After their renovation in the mid-90s, they began to be used for university functions. The joint master degree European Politics and Society aims to bring students state-of- the-art knowledge in his/her subject area of choice, and prepare you for a central role in relation to Europe’s future as the next generations of managers, policy makers and research leaders. In the second year the Programme offers four different study strands reflecting the diverse expertise of the consortium members. Each strand combines various elective courses, research methods, and training language tuition with an advanced research dissertation supervised by key staff from each Partner university. These tracks are the following: Traditions and Future of a Multilevel Europe (Prague), Policy making in the EU (Barcelona), Centre and Periphery (Krakow) and Europe in the International Environment (Leiden). Barcelona Strand: Policymaking in the EU The programme in Barcelona has a more scientific specialization and the students concentrate on research skills.
