About Del Fiore Del Fiore means “of the flowers”. The is so named because on the day Malvasia ripen, they project an incredibly lush floral bouquet and flavors of blossom and honeysuckle. Yet, the wine has an appealing, crisp texture and lower alchohol (11.5%). The goes to great length to preserve and enhance this paradoxical character, using family techniques that are several generations old.

Del Fiore was founded by Mike Filice, as a way to share the joy he experienced learning to grow grapes and make during a formative, bygone era in the California . This is the wine he made and enjoyed with his grandparents.

In the 1950’s’ and 60’s California vintners were just getting to know their land. It was a time of hard work, creativity and neighborliness. They were literally testing everything – the folkloric wisdom of their immigrant parents and grandparents, the new results coming out of universities, rumors from the next town – to discover which wines grew best in their fields. A successful wine got high ratings at the table, not in magazines.

Through the years the market became dominated by just a few varieties like , , and . Lost in the shuffle were a great selection of appealing, distinctive, small production wines.

Malvasia Del Fiore is made from an ancient , Malvasia Bianca, using guarded techniques several generations old. Yet, it responds to today’s consumers’ desire for lively wines with novel flavors, lower alcohol and great food affinity. By reviving secrets of the past, Malvasia Del Fiore embodies both the old and the new in California wines.
