In the Fall of 2015, the Niagara Centre for the Arts and a new home for the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts opened for operation and features four distinct performance venues, including an 800-seat concert hall, 280-seat recital hall for the MIWSFPA with some community access, 184-seat dance/theatre venue, and 190-seat film venue with shared access between the MIWSFPA. The facility also includes office space, a rehearsal hall, café and lobby space. MARILYN I. WALKER SCHOOL OF FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS Meridian Centre The new downtown spectator facility, The Meridian Centre is home to St. Catharines-based OHL team the Niagara IceDogs and serves as a venue for other sports and entertainment events. This location joins the recently opened FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre and the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts as a building block in downtown revitalization. NHS Health Care Complex The new $759 million NHS health-care complex located at First Street Louth and Fourth Avenue in west St. Catharines opened in March of 2013. The centerpiece of the new NHS health-care complex is a five storey, MERIDIAN CENTRE 980,805 square foot state-of-the-art facility with 375 beds, replacing the aging St. Catharines General and Ontario Street Sites in St. Catharines. The new, state-of-the-art health care complex accommodates new regional services that have not been available locally in Niagara, including comprehensive cancer care at the Walker Family Cancer Centre, along with facilities to support cardiac catheterization and longer-term mental health beds. The new site will also act as the hub of regional dialysis services, supported by the permanent dialysis unit recently constructed in Welland. Niagara is now home to one of the most up-to-date health- care facilities in the province, establishing infrastructure to care for and treat the health needs of the Niagara Region.
